Thread regarding 3M layoffs

AIP notice was supposed to be today, or not?

I guess I thought we would hear something today. If it is decent, I also find that a bit odd given all the layoffs underway this year.

@hv Where's the $7M from? Articles in early 2025 were touting his $21M 2024 Salary...
https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2025/03/27/3m-ceo-bill-brown-2024-pay.html

I wouldn't have been surprised since 2024 was only since May I think. That said, I suspect you're comparing apples and oranges (2024 total comp of $21M vs. something else like face value salary + cash awards).

The P4P increment is a miserable 2.3% barely beating inflation. Meanwhile BB gets a big boost to his $21,000,000 annual compensation

@g5: Jealous? No. Absolutely no. He got what he deserved. Will I get what I deserve?
By the way, why 3M became a culture mess? Your post answers your question

It is demotivating that dysfunction has reached a level where we don't even know what our compensation details are!
There is something fishy going on. Or just high level of incompetence.

You don’t have a clue. The financial games going on are insane. Internal financial audits don’t even know what they are looking at lol. They pick the young and clueless for a reason.

@hr Someone is having a good year:

"Bill Brown's Salary at 3M
Total Compensation
2024 Total Compensation: $7,523,738
2025 Total Compensation: $21,190,000"

A 280% raise.

@g5
To be clear, the problem I have with BB is that his "hard work" results in AIP manipulation resulting in lower payouts, removing salary competitive adjustments and taking away LTIP.

I'm sure you're happy to be a part of his club unaffected by these innovative changes.

@g5 lol... bro. Is this BB? "...here to make money for shareholders." This is the exact reason 3M and corporate America in general is in this "culture mess". Leadership has continued to put short term profits over longterm sustainability, ethics, morality, and people.

I don't think people are asking for a "cushy" job. They call it "work" and not "fun" for a reason. People are being asked to be paid accordingly for their performance and their productivity. Take a peek at the below FRED chart which looks at productivity growth versus wage growth.

https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/2023/03/when-comparing-wages-and-worker-productivity-the-price-measure-matters/

Your precious shareholders have been grossly enriching themselves for the last several decades while these "entitled children" have been doing all the work.

You can make profits while being a reputable company and place people want to work. I don't think people are against corporations making money, but most have issue on how they do it.

GFO!

You all sound like jealous children and should grow up. Bit**ing like entitled people on your AIP while in parallel acting like you earned more and criticizing our leaders that give up their lives to try and move 3M forward into a viable company. Let’s not forget — 3M is a publicly traded company here to make money for shareholders. If you want cushy and entitled, leave.

And those of you that complain about BB as if he’s on his yacht in Florida, seems like you miss that he’s in the office morning til night 5 days a week working harder than anyone else in the company. Same goes for all the other leaders at the top who do the same.

While you all shoot from the safety of anonymous computer screens, BB and all that report to him are working harder than I’ve ever seen 3M leaders work in the 11 years I’ve been here.

Stop acting like entitled children, you are why 3M became a culture mess that leaders are trying to change. Some of us want to be a part of that change.

@ek Wendo B made $5.8M in 2024. Google it-

"Wendy Bauer, the Group President of 3M's Transportation and Electronics Business Group, had a total compensation of approximately $5.82 million in 2024, which included a base salary of $806,400, a one-time hiring bonus of $1.2 million, and other incentives."

That's some good coin for pulling forward sales quarter to quarter. Does anyone think she made less this year...? She and Joe will pull off that trick for a few more quarters before moving on to their next gig leaving ashes in their wake....

Has anyone looked at how long these two tend to stay in a job...?

At the standard 2 percent raise BB doled out to the unwashed masses. 2 percent of 20 million is "only" 400k.

Wow! With club fees at his Florida yacht club going up a cool 50k, the poor man only has 350k more to live off.

Enjoy the sc--wing over of loyal 3Mers. You can't take that with you.

this is one of the worse increment % despite 3M share price hitting recent highs. it just shows that BB has set such a high internal target thats impossible to get back 100% of our AIPs. F it dude.

Compa ratio has went down. First time ever at 3M for me been around ~10 years

Nothing like getting a 'raise' and having less buying power!

Most miniscule amount of pay increase that I ever got in my 22 plus years of career in 3M, St.Paul. even worse than what I got during the 2008/2009 financial crisis.

Pay increase of 1,76% (TEBG located in Germany).
I am not sure how to spend all this extra salary.

In TEBG it is exactly 100%. Not just 100%, but 100.0% for all three sections. Some shenanigans going on. I'm sure they'd never round up - so I'm guessing it was supposed to be above, but Wendy/BB wants to save money so they can go on another vacation.

Weird. I could see my AIP statement from 7:30am until about 11:00 am. Then it was gone, and I could finally access my direct reports P4P statements.

Bad day on HR IT today.

@ae
Can speak for USAC, but your AIP statement should be in the workday app and your supervisor should have a copy of your P4P statement they can share with AIP, increase, and LTIP if applicable.

No announcements or inbox tasks, but search ‘View Compensation Review Statements Report’ in workday and you should see reports for each direct report (they combine AIP and merit increase). Not well communicated, but several have combined notes to piece together since communication is so poor. Good luck

@a2 think they flubbed up. Managers are supposed to see it first n then communicate the same to their reports. They distributed it to everyone this morning n then by noon it was gone

I haven’t seen any announcements, but if you look on Pay Change History in workday, you should have visibility to your direct reports 4/1/2026 Compensation Change. Did you expect this would be well organized? You might be new, so welcome to 3M (no sarcasm intended)

Saw it on the front page, clicked through, nothing in my AIP statement. I assume this is the part where lower grades are trusted to grow the business but not trusted to share in the outcome. Very motivating.

I’ve been watching because I want to inform my team ASAP. The only message I see in workday is ‘Pay adjustments, as defined on the 3M Go Pay adjustments page, have been temporarily suspended’. Have any managers actually seen their teams P4P or AIP statements?

I remember all the HR job postings while we were cutting heavily in the divisions. I believe it was to add roles that could help with navigating cuts with outsourcing and analyze ways to reduce benefits. I am sure finding ways to help minimize AIPs over 100% was an area of focus
