Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Belfast thinks they are safe. It’s all about the crossed fingers and let’s huddle together.

Just like so many other sites, they were given a feel good speech and feel all safe and sound. It’s all nice weather before the storm hits. The layoffs are a roving spot light. Sometimes it quickly passes over, sometimes it stops and stays for a while focusing on one area only. Right now the Belfast office feels safe but so does the docks before the ocean swells. Oh, there’s plans for Belfast alright, they’ve just not manifested yet.

Belfast will be hit again with another round of layoffs in about two weeks.

Belfast won’t see anymore layoffs. It’s all over with. Those that have been cut will be the last. The pain train is over with for this location.

Why are most of the comments in this thread posting with the exact same cadence as your average twitter bot? I swear you can spot this sh-t a mile away.

Belfast is going to be hit with a hammer like they’ve never seen before. The “we’re cheaper than London” won’t or doesn’t matter. I feel sorry for them.

Belfast was hit today with a few more that were let go.
There will be more to come, more than they realize that’s for sure.

So much for all the feel good meetings of “I’ve saved this site, we are golden.”

Ah, yes, Belfast. There’s a lot of hope there with fingers crossed but well judgement day is coming more than they realize. It’ll be sad. Of course the proper spin control will be done. I’m sure the global email is being drafted now with all the buzz words of tough choices, growth, changing times, streamlining and all that but its all the same.

I agree. I think its because they’ve been carrying bragging rights of operating more cheaper than London\Dublin without realizing what’s coming.

Ominous sounding I know but that’s all I’m going to say.

Lets just hope enough people jump ship to BoA so it is less of an impact hahaha.

I'm fine waiting for the severance.

Anyone can look at the layoff history for Citi and see that the ‘we are cheaper than other sites’ does not matter. That only goes so far.

It’s more like “you’re cheaper right now the way things are but for the plans for the future you will not be. So, let me move the chess pieces around and by the way, it’ll include restructuring at what’s considered the ‘cheaper sites’ “

So everyone believes, especially at the cheaper sites, that the harder they work and the longer hours per day they put in and more projects they get their name on, will save them , will save the site….um nope. Don’t get me wrong, Citi will give you an official ‘thanks’ for all your hours you put in, in believing in that, followed by your exit papers.

The old Citi spin control machine is good, many walk away buying into it. Hey ignorance as well as trust in this case is bliss……..until the hammer falls. When that happens you are left unemployed, angrily obsessively trolling this site about how angry you are.

In Belfast we always have the mindset of "cheaper than London, Dublin etc" and are quick to raise that in the UK forums. That carries into people here feeling safer.

Belfast will be hit when AI-led cuts take off, but certainly I don't feel safe. We live in blissful ignorance, which we wouldn't have if we were closer to the business. We don't get the forewarning that US states get with their WARN notices so it comes out of the blue to us.

Best of luck all.

It’s sad to see a sight get built up and grow and develop and everyone thinks or hopes that the location is “firm” enough to get through anything and then later, sometimes years later…not so much.

Regardless of where you are or where you move to, no site, location, country, role, org, department can avoid the layoff assessment that’s going on.

Just because your site was already hit once, don’t think they won’t roll back around for another round. Just because your site was not hit, don’t think you are safe and sound. To think otherwise is setting yourself up for a fall and huge disappointment.
