Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Completely fed up and done

Spent years giving my all, and now all the constant chaos and cuts have destroyed any motivation. Leadership keeps getting rid of people and acting like we can still deliver miracles. I’m done going above and beyond just to see it wasted. Every task feels like a battle, and my patience has finally run out.

The most notorious do-nothings are usually repugnant corporate bootlickers and informants as well. They are generally the last to leave as they are valueless elsewhere.

Hey, buddy, grab your stuff and hit the road,
This damn company’s a cage, it’s crushing your soul.
Step out that door, let the sunlight take hold,
Life’s got a melody, and it’s callin’ you home.
No more narcissistic screams ringin’ in your ears,
No more sycophants playin’ dress-up with their fears.
Clowns mumblin’ nonsense, puttin’ on a show,
Puppets run the place while the board’s just takin’ it slow.
Walk away, feel that open breeze callin’ your name,
Hang with your kids, let your family spark that flame.
This ship’s goin’ down, sinkin’ deep in the tide,
Smart folks ain’t touchin’ this mess, no matter how they try.
Oh, walk away, life’s gonna shine so damn bright!
You used to burn the midnight oil, chasin’ a dream,
But their empty promises tore you apart at the seams.
They fed you big talk, stars and galaxies galore,
Now you’re left with nothin’ but chains and a locked door.
No more dealin’ with that ego-fueled tyrant’s rage,
No more watchin’ yes-men strut on a fool’s stage.
Useless suits play power games, blind to the fall,
While the board just sits there, doin’ nothin’ at all.
It’d take a hero’s guts to try and save this wreck,
But it’s too far gone, just a noose around your neck.
The board let it crumble, watched it slip out of sight,
This ship’s bound for the deep, lost forever in the night.
Walk away, hear that open breeze callin’ your name,
Your kids’ laughter’s the sweetest song to reclaim.
Don’t look back, this ship’s doomed to fade away,
Your story’s got a new verse, startin’ today.
Oh, walk away, life’s gonna shine so damn bright!
Hey, buddy, hit the road and chase that light,
Your open sky’s waitin’, ready to take flight.
Leave the storm behind, find the freedom you deserve,
Life’s singin’ loud, and it’s yours to preserve.

I find myself fed-up lately.
So hard to get motivated to do anything, which really su-ks because I remember better days. Now I'm just trying to run out the clock.

It's crazy how some people would smile at you and talk shyte with you just to stab you in the back later when it benefits them.

I agree with the previous statement. I don’t understand what employees come here and complain. If you’re truly as unhappy, as you claim to be, nobody’s holding you back, just get up and leave. The reason you’re still here is because you’re probably unqualified for another job elsewhere.

@fs literally no

Metaphorically yes.
Overal job market isn't great - and the more trust with your employer generally means more time to safely plan an exit.

If this is the breaking point, plan's prolly in the works

You are aware there is no barbed wire holding you in.

@db , you are so naive. Have you never been caught between a rock and a hard place ?
If you are so happy with OT, why are you here in layoff forum trying to find out when is the next layoff ?
Even if the community of 23000 dedicated people wants OT to succeed but management continuously make the wrong easy decisions and bad short term planning, those 23000 will still be reduced and reduced and reduced. History repeating.

Then leave.
Stop complaining.
If you have marketable skills, and are truly unhappy then go.

Why are you staying and complaining?

Some of use want to see a Canadian company with so much history succeed. Some of us understand that if we give up, 23000 people lose their livelihood. Some of us understand that a company is more than a collection of random people it is a community.

Maybe this community isn’t for you. Leave. Leave now. And leave quietly.

Good riddance.

otex nasdaq is trending high since Mark is kicked out. Wondering how nice it will be if his new hires who have not delivered to the level of money is spent on them them like CSD and ITs are also let go. Those wanted to save 10B in 10 years LOL.

I was you, too, and finally left. My manager was at best unhelpful and more typically an active part of the problem (unfair reviews, no raises, gaslighting, goalposts constantly moving), but even colleagues who had decent managers were being mistreated, so I knew there was no hope of improving the situation for us lowly individual contributors who do all the work. There is no reward for delivering miracles, not for you and not for your team. Almost everyone on what was my team has quit or been laid off by now.

@OP I was you.

There are some great people there that I worked with. Just so much waste and lazy leaders. Realize you're boxed-in by the org and processes. Nothing to be done.

@bt especially here

We absolutely cannot implement systems worth jack. The technology could be perfect and OT would still find a way to mess it up.

We're on what 3 ticketing/support systems in <5 years?

@OP "Leadership keeps getting rid of people and acting like we can still deliver miracles."

That's because of this insane notion that agentic AI can replace humans.

@OP I know some of these threads boomerang from 'good employers exist' to 'expect corporate cynicism' but I do actually feel for you, my dude.

Some people really simplify something that really can't be. And folks like us are caught in the middle of it.

In my case - not only am I also seen as a high performer. I've done some WACK stuff being here.

I've made product management decisions

I've pressed, got ignored, and then pressed more to fix million-if-not-billion dollar value holes.

I got asked to do a software installation and went 'bet' because that was the product I apparently knew well enough to make major Product Management decisions on.

I've even passed leads to Sales and let Renewals know when they have a chance to sell extended support despite getting no kick-backs off either

I'm also one of the area's best 'sh-t breakers' (ie I find holes and issues that need fixed) to the point it's an ongoing joke. I just have a 6th sense for weird/complex stuff. But I'm not paid nor recognized for it a lot. I'm given the normal, non-breaker salary and given the most BACK-HANDED compliments like 'I can't believe someone in xyz had a better idea than our IT on this'

And there's somehow absolutely no movement or fairer pay options despite saving the company.

It's disheartening as he-l to trust a place to go above and beyond - to get nothing for it. While it still may be the norm, we gotta empathize. Do what you need to - and if that includes leaving get you some nice references and resume update and get a job where you're fully appreciated.
