Former happy Cengager checking in to see what’s happening in Loserville.
Get out and let Cengage burn.
There is more money and better cultures out here.
Good luck

@w1 but at the end of the day, fewer staff is exactly what Apollo wants. This company will probably be over by September
I don’t think they expected so many people to take severance instead of reapplying for their jobs. Which is a measure of how little they took on board the last staff survey. And now I can see why NK in his town hall looked rather nervous and was talking about the consultants, saying he didn’t want to have consultants involved
@h0 it was an internal HED sales email. They don’t come out an admit it directly bc they don’t want to show panic, but there are several bullet points they talk about saying veiled statements like “we know this hasn’t been easy, that’s normal”. The whole HED team are basically new hires all learning a new job and territory, and in some cases completely new products/systems. They were mad people had started to tell customers about the changes - if that tells you anything.
Was abundantly clear they haven’t thought through the commissions/pay structure, systems access that was immediately cut off that SW thought was a fine idea, had no plan for territory coverages/transitions, Gale was absorbed and sent to HED and there is no one with access to close the business, nor Gale knowledge, they had to restore “visibility” to all accounts for everyone in salesforce because it’s been such a cluster. No one knows what they should be doing, what they should be covering, who’s responsible for what and some products are left with no one to cover the order, renewal, desk copy, bookstore close out etc.
@p3 SW & NK are seriously clueless. This new rollout has been a cluster of epic proportions and they know it.
@h0 higher ed had major cuts, supposedly infosec too
@p3 totally agree. BE should be fired for crimes against publishing.
I quit my position simply because of BE. Good decision since I make more money and have competent leaders.
Additionally, BE is petty, vindictive, and a dolt.

@nb times are stressful. the last thing we need is this kind of racism and xenophobia.
If NK applied for the job, would he be qualified for an interview? Are we supposed to keep pretending he’s an expert? So odd how much he talks about hiring experienced talent…. and each change is the last change. Could someone ask his wife to take away his business books? Each night when he turns the page, he changes his mind and rewrites history.
@h0 where is this “S-U” email or what did they actually admit ? (There is a lot to guess from )
Where were the layoffs? In the School side here and heard nothing. Curious to get a look or get more insight on the “sc--w up” email, too.
@fq the email admitting the sc--w ups was hilarious. All of us could foresee the massive missteps the second they rolled this out, but somehow the “smartest” most highly paid people making the decisions that planned this for 9 months couldn’t. They are bleeding millions of dollars by the day. And everyone is leaving.
Millions are leaving every day - the rats are abandoning the ship, it must be sinking
I’ve counted thousands!
@bz Infosec got hit hard. Prob a dozen.
@bt from what I understand - content , finance, and some CS positions in Work .
You sound happy! Congratulations on becoming your own CEO.
@bp where?? I'm in higher ed and haven't heard anything
I feel like Inside Sales, if it can still be called that is toast. Actively trying to find something else. AI is coming for us all.
@bn Yep a lot more layoffs happened today
just more layoffs over here, same old playbook
