The branches close at 2pm on the 24th but our dept is staying open until 5. To make matters worse they said we couldn’t work from home that day and had to report to the office. I’m just curious if this is just our dept or are all internal depts working all day on the 24th?

Thank G I left this place
@fv So you are saying that you need a certain job grade to be entitled to work in your PJs, while your direct reports RTO 5 days? I didn't see that mentioned in HRs 'In-office expectations FAQ? Hummm. Please enlighten me. What is the magic job grade #? I'm a 110.
@fv Owner?
Managers and Senior Managers are not owners of anything. These people aren't running the company or writing the checks. So chill.
@fq you will never make AVP
@fq Hypocrite? What a myopic view you have. The owner of the horse doesn't clean the stables — there's benefits to advancement.
I would hope your manager also works in the office til 5:00, otherwise he/she sc-mmy hypocrite. Unfortunately that seems to be the norm here - and I personally have ZERO respect for WFH managers enforcing badge swipe monitoring and 5 day RTO while they sit home.
This is why you're given the opportunity to purchase additional vacation hours during open enrollment. That thawing Food Lion deli feast and artifical tree will still be the same at 5 as it would have been at 2. You also have the perk of avoiding the bulk of holiday traffic but I don't see you mentioning that.
IT should all be outsourced to India
At least you still have a job to complain about.
@a2 You didn't mention working in the office. So you work from home, huh? Playing video games and watching TV? We know IT folks tend to drag their feet on solving issues so they don't have to start another project.
Way too many stories on how IT at most work 4 hour days and spend the rest of the day not doing anything lol
It sounds like you department leads are being petty.
Depending on the department you can have very flexible managers who will treat people right, though our department closes a little later than yours.
Work from home and see what happens. If you're working they can't complain and you might find someone in HR who is sympathetic. Mention other departments are offered more flexibility and that you can do your work at home without issue. Assuming your individual performance is good.
Allowed to WFH and out at 3pm on the 24th for me
@a2 Oh well if you don’t like your hours then find another job. You know what you signed up for.
I work in IT. We are expected to work whenever told to, 365 days a year - nights, weekends, holidays, and vacation days. All without any extra pay, overtime, or bonuses. So, no one gets any sympathy from me. Ever. Especially someone complaining about having to work until 5pm. Oh, the humanity! Boo hoo.
