Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Same level, same titke, same work, only one of us has to move.

Really curious what the criteria was for forced relocation? Me and my coworker are the same level, have same tittle, and do equal parts of the same job, I’m being forced to move, he stays TW.

Like what the actual f*** thought moves were based on roles and work. If so why the difference in designation?

Your coworker knows how to spell “tittle” and is normal. You have an MBA, nose ring and pink hair.

There is definitely politics with some of Leggs AVPs specifically Atlanta. Follow the Code of Ethics. Right 🤣

Sounds like YOU wasted money on an MBA.

Ask your manager and director why they felt your coworker was more valuable than you.

Remember there are approximately 10% given TW status.

I know of several in my org, and they were chosen based on their location relative to a hub office and role.

They basicallly saved people who wouldn’t have been able to drive into a hub who are key contributors.

Same thing happened to me.

Be careful what you wish for. I didn't get TW status, but instead "elected" not to "follow the job". Despite it being my choice (their words), ended up with involuntary layoff severance pay. Interesting.

The TWs I left behind will be required to show up in an office three days per month. They live hours of driving away from their designated offices, but those aren't in hubs. In theory they can go in for three consecutive days during last of current/first three of next, but is that really in the spirit of "collaboration?"

TWs (at least in our org) won't really be full telework, but hybrid. "Hybrid" means you have to maintain the same personal infrastructure to go into your designated workspace (cars, parking, etc.) as you would as FTO.

Anyone who doesn't like that arrangement can resign, of course, but won't get severance. I dodged a bullet worth a half-year's pay.

OP Here.. Both of us work outside of hub cities; I'm in the northern Midwest; he is in the Southwest. Both of us have had stellar performance reviews. I'm much younger. I have 13 years of service, my coworker has 18. we both came to AT&T as part of different acquisitions. I have an MBA, and he doesn't.

Your coworker is a better performer and leadership decided that they can’t lose both so they keep the top performers. It is what it is.

This is legally actionable behavior. I would contact an attorney immediately.

My guess is if you accept the relocation and stay with the company, your co-worker will be eventually surplussed. Just a guess.

OP—
The answer can be found in your question. You and your coworker work in the same area and back each other up. T is in financial ruin, so needs of the business dictated one of you had to go. Since you are both salaried, your coworker will be able to cover the slack at no additional cost to the business. Good luck to you. This wasn’t personal.

Same here. Additionally, both my Associate Director and Director are virtual. How in the he-l is a manager able to manage a team effectively without "collaborating", while an individual contributor working needs to be co-located with other people also working individually?

These managers that are working remotely while forcing their people to move are the biggest hypocrites and are despicable humans. Totally oblivious to how bad this looks and how much respect they have lost.

It was a close call. It came down to your coworker being able to spell the word title.
