When did Allstate last do something to benefit regular employees?

For those of you talking about work from home even after pandemic that was not the case for all of us.
I work in claims and I want to keep working from home but I am being told we are going to be hybrid (first I was told in July and next September). I have a neurological disorder so working from home is better for me but Allstate is making me jump through hoops to appeal my hybrid assignment. I don't get why they couldn't give us the choice as individuals.

I have myself worked for another insurance company, a medium sized but well known tech company, in the offices of a well known tire manufacturer, and a regional marketing company for the entertainment industry. Only one of them provided better benefits and more for their employees than Allstate. The rest were far inferior in that regards. Allstate has a lot of undesirable things going for it but their overall benefits offerings are pretty good overall.

I would argue, paying a tenure based severance for a layoff is something they do for the average employee that many other companies don't.

I've only been laid off once, and all of us affected, regardless of tenure, got a whopping week of severance pay to extend our insurance to the end of the following month and the added benefit of being DQ'd from receiving unemployment due to the laws at the time in that particular state...

It can be so much worse...

@fiy+1bg1b3Zy a large manufacturing company, a large news organization, several well funded start ups and none of them offered anywhere near a benefits package on par with what Allstate has.

Sure it was probably better in the past, but every company used to be... you obviously have been spoiled with 15 years of Allstate's, you have no clue the garbage offered elsewhere... Even Allstate's cuts have been more competitive than the base offerings elsewhere from what I've seen.

@sby- Ive worked in claims for 15 years. I'm not sure what professional type jobs you've had prior to this company that offered worse benefits but frankly your prior jobs are irrelevant to the original post which was what was the last thing that the company did for employees. offering less benefits every year and increasing work load for less pay is not doing something for the employee. Is to benefit the company and increase profit at the expense of the employee.

@sby Same here. PTO is very generous. My 401k match increased a few times just since 2017. I still have dental and vision for a few bucks a pay period. The health insurance is average, not great but definitely better than some places. My Choice Dollars of $4000 per pretty much negates my benefits contributions for the year. Plus we get a week and a half of protected PTO. There are legal ways around the arbitration agreement due to being force signed out of duress for your job. Juneteenth off for us whiteys. More recognized holidays off. Full time work from home extended after COVID. $80 per month for our internet bills and other work from home expenses starting in July. Good Office where you get to keep what you buy. Paying for family dinners out once a month. Layoffs will happen but I don't let that get to me. I only control what I can.

@lwz+1bg1b3Zy what dept are you in? All of what you posted is the opposite of my experience in the last 3 years.

Have way more PTO here than I did at my previous employers even if it was reduced, my 401K match went up, pension, I have dental/vision, etc... the health insurance sucks, as does the arb agreement, but otherwise, the benefits package here is significantly better than many places I've worked previously in the last 15 years

@tlb+1bg1b3Zy you must be new. All of the things you mentioned were actually cut from what was offered in previous years. Pto was cut, 401k company match was "adjusted" two or three times and of course it was adjusted down to where the company contributes less, the choice dollars are a compromise to offer the employees something regarding benefits since the company cut out dental, vision, instituted cheaper high deductible plans offering less coverage and stopped providing assistance with offering contribution to HSA to help with these high ded, the company use to contribute $500 contribution ever semi quarter and cut to nodda.. the company did away with any retirement plans for newbies and closed offices where hourly wage was paid to pay salary so that they could get more hours out of the employees and not pay us for them. Also the company forced an arbitration contract on employees so that we cant sue the company for their abuses.. not to mention the disaster layoffs over the last few years and all the mess, such as, low morale, more work, inadequate processes and support for the employees... could go on and on ..if you call that "doing for the employee", I question your judgement.

If you're going to complain about a benefit that has gotten worse over time, the health insurance is the worst I've ever had. I can't believe they couldn't work out a better plan given the size of the company.

Choice dollars are great... I guess people will find any reason to complain about Allstate...

Choice Dollars paid for a lot of my benefits deductions. I'll take the free $4000 a year.

Funny, my 401k match increased in 2018. And they upped PTO for many areas but just capped it for the boomers that had a ridiculous number of days. And in addition to the poster below's list we were given more flexible work hours like 4 ten hour days and like 60+ hours if protected time off. I know claims suck and they don't do the same for claims as most of the rest of us but you can't deny that many of us are quite pleased and content. Sure the constant threats of layoffs suck but those are decisions above our heads really out of our control. And there is still a good chance of severance, another not required benefit if you want to count it as such.

Choice dollars was not good for most employees. The 401 match has not been increased in years and is below market. They just took PTO days away from older workers. And retiree health care from people
Not already retirement eligible.

Juneteenth off, Choice Dollars, Good Office, Full Time work from home even after pandemic, Increasing 401k matches above industry average, Increasing PTO several years ago....many things. The company isn't perfect but don't let misguided hate blind you. Outside of a few poorly run and overworked departments most of us have it really good.
