Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Strange phone call

I am a retiree, been gone and happy for 5 years.
Over the last 2 weeks I have had a few emails, then some phone calls from Chevron folks based in Bangalore.
Seems several people have been giving the team in India the contact details for some of us who are retired.
The nice folks I talked to in India were asking for me be a mentor and help with some technical questions.
What is going on? Who is giving out contact details? have any other retirees had similar communications?

@g2 It sounds like they are quite resourceful, and may be one good aspect of these new hires.

I have learned to never accept connections from Indian names on linkedin. Especially not Indian recruiters. The will sell your data and farm your resume.

I’ve been contacted a few times through LinkedIn. I respond by blocking the person. I’d do the same if I got a call.

@g1 Is it possible they are finding it on the websites? I know there are many websites that collect personal information from people, someone only needs your name and they can find out a lot about you.

The biggest concern is that , as retiree no longer have company email or phone number.
My personal details are only known to a very small group and of course HR.
So who is giving out private personal information to the folks in India?

@fe I agree they have found names in old documentation. I am getting contacted by people "the Engine" for help and I still work at Chevron. But the people that are contacting me should have their own escalation paths to their PO's and SME's. There appears to be no escalation path within the new org structure to support these people. They are not going to get much support from the people they are intended to replace so the managers in their org structure should be helping them.

@er time to go back to your shared cubicle and continue to train your Engine replacement.

Probably found your name on some old documentation that never got updated and are desperate for someone to help tell them how to do the job they were hired for despite being woefully underqualified.

@ah Op here you may think that any and all old timers are stupid I know a lot of youngsters do.
Before I wrote my initial post through my contacts I checked up on the names of the individuals who contacted me and was able to verify they are Chevron employees based in Bangalore so my post is not fake news maybe you wish it were.
For your comfort and peace of mind I have no intention of being drawn into the mess the company has created

If Chevron is looking for people to mentor ENGINE employees who aren't current employees, that could imply they have another round of layoffs in mind. Why be dependent on current employees if you can leverage retirees looking for a few extra bucks?

You sound like a nice person, and my advice to you is to tell them to ask Mike Wirth how much he has in the budget for consulting fees to address his and McKinsey’s fu---d up reorg that triggered this whole mess in the first place. I would give them exactly the same consideration that they gave the average employee: NOTHING.
