Doing time in office

Anyone just badge in and turn around and WFH? Is it noticed?

@2jq Probably because the badge swipe tracking only picks up arrival time now. When things eventually get enhanced to require swipe out at end of day or ISP data gets correlated to badge swipe location vs RTO, it will all change. I think this while thing is completely stupid, but that's where things are heading. So either deal with working in office for a full day 3+ days per week or prepare to exit. Sorry, I know it su-ks!

Most people on my floor leave at lunch- and I know some that were required to come in since last September and leaving at lunch- nothing has happened.

There’s no point in being in office but besides appeasing high upper management power hungry ego

We got informed in our weekly staff call that they are going to check VPN log very soon.

Is it noticed? Yes. People think they are getting away with sh-t, but when annual performance reviews happen and people get low ratings for failure to actually comply with RTO (which I despise, for the record) and get zero or minimal bonus, then they themselves will start to notice that RTO expectations are real. We have all been warned. Lots of people will be screaming early next year when bonus pool is parsed out. Mark my words.

@nm That is incorrect. If you are laid off, you get severance. If your role is offshored to a vendor and the vendor retains you such that you still have a job, you do not get severance. You may wish to read again with a more critical eye focused on the details.

@eb this is acting like they pay people severance to begin with. They're offshoring positions and there's a clause in the severance policy that if your position is offshore they won't pay you severance.

@OP Atlanta Office

  • No paper coffee cups cause we are saving the environment and money
  • No onsite IT support
  • Dirty desk keyboards and desk
  • Secured door broken for over a month
  • Multiple issues with the air conditioning
  • Multiple flex desk and offices with no equipment

I am not surprised at people not staying all day. Who wants to deal with this?

Not usually. I drove in and paid for parking, may as well stick around.

@ga Because we are too cheap to get proper facilities to have people work in an office.

So how come the India employees we contract are mostly home based? They don’t believe in culture to be in office 3 days a week in India?

I commented that VPNs are tracked. Why the down vote? I don't like it, but it is a fact.

If you haven't figured it out yet all the RTO is about is to get people to quit. If they quit you don't have to pay severance.

Now that RTO has been implemented for several months now they are onto step #2 which is just going to be staff reduction across the board.

This means that it doesn't matter if you are in the office or WFH there is a possibility you are going to be laid off. For those complaining that they see people coming into the office for only a short period of time need to quit kidding themselves. it makes no difference and you are just as likely at this point to be let go as they are.
RTO is really just about making the employees unhappy enough to quit.

Step #3- Outsource like crazy to reduce employee costs. Much cheaper labor in India. Which by the way if you look up these Indian contractors in the directory most of them are Home Based.

The company is clearly out of ideas to grow the business and are just going to reduce staff to please the shareholders and get the stock back up.

Ask any Risk Management Manager in WCIB on the 4th floor in St Paul. They all clock in and leave for the day at lunch time. The rules don't apply to them.

Coffee badging is frequently discussed. Teams notice who's not there.

I get a report weekly of VPN login data. Yes, they are tracking VPN's. However, it's difficult for them to argue when a badge swipe and VPN connection are conflicting. They typically only refer back to the VPN data on employees that are already on PIP's.

People here always talk about tracking VPN, but I don't think that's accurate. I know plenty of people who have been only working in office a few hours a day since September and they've received perfect RTO scores. Is this something I would recommend in the current climate at this company? No.

I can’t believe you would even ask that stupid question. All I can say is fool around and find out!

Are they checking VPN or badge swipes or both? How much do they want to police us?

Yes they do notice, because of your VPN.
