Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

It's time!

Author Louis Adamic, in his account of the late 1930s wave of sit-down strikes in the United States wrote the following definition in the fall of 1936:

SITDOWN, n. Act of quitting work in one or a few departments of a delicately organized mass-production factory with the aim of stopping operations in the entire or most of the plant; specif. such an act done by mutual agreement by workers in one or a few departments of such a factory as a means of enforcing compliance with demands made upone their employers; sudden strike workers in one or a few departments of such a factor, decided upon and called by themselves while on the job, usually without the sanction of any recognized labor-union leader or official and, as a rule, of short duration, the strikers and the rest of the workers remaining idle (sitting down) by their machines or belt conveyors pending the compliance with their (the strikers') demands. See STAY-IN and QUICKY.

Ahmed White distinguishes three types of sit-in strikes: "short, 'qu----e' strikes, characterized by brief, on-the-job work stoppages," like those described by Adamic; "the classic 'stay-in' strike", defined "a work stoppage in which the strikers occupied the workplace to prevent the employer from using it for a considerable period of time"; and "'skippy' strikes, characterized by intentionally sloppy performance on the production line."

Sit-down strikes also built upon the tactics, used by the Industrial Workers of the World, of the "folded arms strike" and "striking on the job" (which, according to Adamic, "required men to pretend they were working, and to accomplish as little as possible without being discharged").

I guess the culture shift started 2 years ago. I thought it was just in my department, but understood it is across the company. My long time manager left as he could not handle the politics any more. I used to be a over achiever, first to respond to any issue and gave too many hours and weekends. My morale is an all time low due to managers who has no idea what they are doing or talking, and managers are intentionally keeping team members away from critical meetings. It was frustrating for a while. But now I'm looking at the bright side, it has given a chance to upskill and catch up on personal courses. I only respond if a question is asked to me directly, no more being proactive. If a task is given to me, I complete, no more and no less. There is no going above and beyond.
I know its tough after working so many years with the company. But times have changed, no company is safe. There is no such thing as job security. Upskill and move on.

This ethos has persisted through the years; goldbricking, sandbagging, malingering, quiet quitting and resenteeism. No one seems to care about why these themes continue to resonate through generations.

Bottom line for me - i will do one of two things. Be above-average in doing my work, or come into the office. That decision was made for me, so the decision-makers can enjoy the consequences.

  1. nothing I do is going to cause a negative situation for anyone in need of care. I am very far removed from the front lines. Plenty of employees are. Odd that you'd assume differently.
  1. in no way do I expect this to hurt slt. I am sure that they will never notice. This is me providing less output in response to a negative situation. I will lose money, so i an going to get some extra pay for times when no work is accomplished. My co-workers have their own assignments and will not be expected to do mine. There is not a big, generic pool of work in this area.

Please remember much of the work slow down will negatively impact patients. When your children or parents cannot access care timely you’ll see the flaw in your thinking.

Right. We should all strive to be as productive as humanly possible at all times, no matter what the company does to us, so that @fbd+1s58GxGy won't call us co-mies. Go away and come back when you can try harder

Tell me you’re a co-mie without saying it.

This is great! I'm doing my part by adding in slowdowns and inefficiencies to my daily routine. I'm starting to avoid doing things that would lead to faster turnaround. Why use a search function when I can just visually scan? Things of that nature.

War is a two-sided venture and if they want to wage war on us, we can war right back.

“Listen all y’all it’s a SABOTAGE!!!!”

I can't stand it, I know you planned it
I'm gonna set it straight, this Watergate
I can't stand rocking when I'm in here
'Cause your crystal ball ain't so crystal clear
So while you sit back and wonder why
I got this fu--ing thorn in my side
Oh my God, it's a mirage
I'm tellin' y'all, it's a sabotage
So, so, so, so listen up 'cause you can't say nothin'
You'll shut me down with a push of your button?
But you, I'm out and I'm gone
I'll tell you now, I keep it on and on
'Cause what you see you might not get
And we can bet, so don't you get souped yet
You're scheming on a thing that's a mirage
I'm trying to tell you now, it's sabotage
Why
Our backs are now against the wall?
Listen all y'all, it's a sabotage
Listen all y'all, it's a sabotage
Listen all y'all, it's a sabotage
Listen all y'all, it's a sabotage
I can't stand it, I know you planned it
I'm gonna set it straight, this Watergate
Lord, I can't stand rockin' when I'm in this place
Because I feel disgrace because you're all in my face
But make no mistakes and switch up my channel
I'm Buddy Rich when I fly off the handle
What could it be? It's a mirage
You're scheming on a thing, that's sabotage
