Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Severance Negotiation - Anyone use a lawyer?

Thinking about retaining an employment attorney to look over my layoff paperwork and see if there is any room to negotiate a better severance package.

If you've used a lawyer for this, how did it go? Did the company offer more, or did you end up paying legal fees out of pocket for no change? Any advice or experiences would be highly appreciated.

@f5 The majority of NetApp's workforce is in the US.

The idea of unionization has been mentioned ad nauseum on this website.

However, you have to understand that the US government favors big business and unions don't protect people here anymore. It's by design. It takes 2 seconds to Google why unions aren't effective in the US -- employers can retaliate against unions with few or no repercussions.

Someone else mentioned the demise of the auto industry in another thread, so stop pushing an idea that isn't going to work. They were the most powerful union in US history. Did that save them?

It is possible to join a union and get legal representation that way in some countries.

What are you whining about?
NetApp has been downhill since 2015.
If you clung on hoping for a happy send off it’s your fault. Su-k it up, accept your poor decision making for staying with high expectations and move on.

@ar Thank you for the support. It really does feel like the culture has completely shifted, and it’s incredibly disheartening for those of us who poured years into building it. I will absolutely update this thread as I move forward.

In the meantime, if you or anyone else on this board knows of a good employment attorney who handles tech severance structures, please let me know (or drop a hint on how to find one). Hang in there.

please let us know how this goes. i have never seen a company go from treating its employees well (even when impacting them) to just tossing them and their families in the garbage as this company has done the past few years. I get that hard decisions have to be made, but sc--wing those that built this company for nickels is on you. guessing there is a special place in he-l for your greed, think about that as you cash out your options in this world.,,,
