I wish I was told before hand that things were this bad for me , instead of just things seemingly to be okay.
Now I have no job/ no income and the job market is not great.

I share your pain. Let go yesterday in my PR review. 32 years, always had good PRs. Then I got Conway 'd. Shoved to an org I never aspired to work in. Those in the org were less educated and honestly, quite a bunch of misfits. I continued to meet expectations, but it started to become clear they wanted me out. Was actually told that I had much greater problem solving skills then they needed. So yesterday, after no ratings below meets expectations, I was let go. Kicker was no bonus. The issue is not you, its them. F Ford.
@fs yeah, there were hundreds of openings when I got laid off August 2022 as well. This is a red herring.
Departments hiring doesn't mean other departments aren't firing. Grow up.
@fs I’m not sure if it’s a hoax. I believe they’re hiring and firing employees. I’ve witnessed the hiring process, and a friend in HR informed me about the firings.

@ee Many of the old timers are still stuck in the mindset of how Ford use to do layoffs you know multi-year planning with well publicized big bang layoffs. They refuse to believe the new ongoing stealth layoffs are the thing at Ford now.
Someone comes in here shook up over getting let go, and some butthats suggest he's lying. Just so they feel more secure in their do-nothing, overpaid roles. SMH

Yes, it is harder to look for a job with no job and no income. That's why it is recommended to save plenty of money for the rainy days.
If you don't have that saved money, you are f!@#ed. Now you have to get moving, and get anything to keep the lights on, even working on service jobs or insert yourself in the gig economy, while you look for another professional position. You have to avoid falling into the debt hole.
If you have money saved, then get moving as well (unless you have a very comfortable financial position). Split your time in getting some money rolling in (to help you extend the saved money), upgrading your skills (hard and soft) and applying for jobs.
It is NOT the end of the world. Buckle up! It could be a nasty ride, but we all have done it at one point, and we survived...
make no mistake in most cases - the vast majority, you are not the issue. Its typically all your management and how they want to re-org things. Especially if you have had upper management recently in the last year hired in from the outside, be ready for some disruptive times once they get their bearings.
@ay I didn’t dislike any comments, but I could understand that if you just got laid off and people tell you it’s a blessing, or to look at it as an opportunity, that it may be off putting or have the wrong tone. Looking for a job while having one gets you treated very differently than someone looking while unemployed from the view of recruiters/hiring teams. Down the road it might seem like a good thing, but the person looking won’t feel that way for the next month-2 years+ it takes to find the next job.
@ay incompetence starts with the LL6s and grows exponentially to the LL4 level in some orgs. Sadist is a pretty good description based on my experience, I think some of these people bring their personal problems to work and see it as an opportunity to take out some stress, you’d hope for some common sense but alas, none exists.

No failure; just a victim of a system that has two measurables. Did you get recognized for owning your deliverables AND perhaps more importantly did your management consider those vital? Often you can control neither one; and almost certainly the latter was forced upon you regardless.

Getting laid off can be difficult. I know it’s hard, but try not to take it personally. You are just a number and a lot of things beyond your control go into layoff decisions. However, this may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to you. Take this opportunity to find a new job and you may find it is much better than Ford… and when it does, be sure to rub it in your old manager’s face.. I did!

So sorry for you. Yes major failure is many "leaders" are not leaders. They avoid the hard conversations and then just drop a bo-b. This is a blessing to get you down a better path, really. Good Luck and know the sun will shine on you again.
