Rank and Sp--k: A Visionary Guide to Corporate Darwinism

Does anyone NOT have concerns about our beloved gladiator-style performance ranking system? You know, the one where 25% of the workforce—excluding fresh recruits still learning where the bathroom is—must be ceremonially tossed into the “Below Expectations” pit, regardless of actual performance.

Let’s pause and admire the sheer elegance of this approach:

• Step 1: Hire smart, capable people.
• Step 2: Force them into a Hunger Games-style cage match.
• Step 3: Declare 1 in 4 unworthy, because spreadsheets demand blood.

What’s the rationale, you ask? Simple. It’s not about ethics, fairness, or logic—it’s about visionary leadership. The kind that reads Shakespeare's Macbeth for bedtime stories and thinks empathy is a performance liability.

And while we’re redefining “culture” as “competitive trauma bonding,” let’s give a standing ovation to the Executive Committee for their bold commitment to sociopathic excellence. Speaking of which, here’s a helpful link for anyone curious about symptom #1: Choosing Therapy: Signs of a Sociopath.

In closing, we should humbly suggest the Committee reflect deeply on this practice. Perhaps even consider a retreat with Spring Hill —ideally one with mirrors, therapists, and a copy of Leadership for Humans.

@qk yup agree and this works well in consulting where the progress is rapid and risk taking is rewarded, churn is the norm..it would be disastrous for a Bank

That's RATING, not RANKING. You'll probably rate and rank at the bottom.

Rank and Span-k is one cruel measure where RV is leading the company. if this practice succeeds at scale, more banks and companies will follow. This is textbook McKinsey practice.

The folks on the ground are the ones responsible for the delivery and any growth in the company. However, they are treated like cattle in a third world. This is what Brits do best, belittle staff, exploit people and situations, LOOT whats available and then display the loots to the public.

Don't ppl see that this has been the strategy since the dawn of colonialism and continues well into the corporate era. Started w/ war crimes and now spread to corporate crimes.

It's also creating competition within teams. I almost virtually smacked a colleague this week. Last time I checked I only report to one person in Oracle. Can't wait to get out of here.

I am not concerned. I know I am finished. I’ve seen ‘Silence of the Lambs’ and I know Robin’s playbook. He is Jame Gumb in his RTO PIP suit.
They should start playing Q. Lazzarus’s ‘Goodbye horses’ as the intro music to the town halls.

I am concerned! This is just cruel. And the number of leaders that just obey and force people there…….so very sad. It’s just a morale booster, not a morale builder. It’s a delicate house of cards that is crumbling.
