A GSR or anything LL5 or below at Ford is NOT a job anyone should consider relocating for. If thats even on someone's mind as a possibility that has dependants, they've got serious issues. I'm amazed when I hear people relocated for a job at Ford. What an ill informed gamble. You don't trust these people, they could turn on you in an instant. Single? Ok...still a bad decision but come into town on a month to month lease for the 1st year. You never know what these flakes in management are going to do. Nepotism doesn't care that you moved to a new town with no support structure.

I'm sure nobody in mx has been terminated for not obeying RTO...

A few have been terminated in my area. All had zero days in office since Sept 1. I haven't seen or hears of any consequence for coffee badging or fewer than 4 days in yet.

  • You're just not gonna go?
  • What, so you're gonna quit?
  • Nuh-uh. Not really. I'm just gonna stop going.

  • So you're gonna get another job?

  • I don't think I'd like another job.

@gq The huge issue is that people hired during covid from out of state had relocation money available to them but were told they only need to relocate if we start coming in, and the funds were only available for 1 year after being hired. Now you would have to move on your own dime, and for what? This "amazing" environment? Hah.

Yes, very reasonable for the guy to decide not to relocate for the job. Uproot your family for the flaky erratic behavior we see at Ford? Significant risk to put them in the driver's seat of your life like that..

This is completely fine. I think most people find moving for a job like Ford to be unreasonable, but this won't stop them from accepting the offer, and crossing that bridge when they come to it. Accept the job with the intent of never moving even if required with the idea that this won't happen very soon. Calculated risk. Management tells you to come in, then (of course you have been looking even in good times) you can say "nah..no thank you." Anyone who doesn't think Ford will pull this BS on them even if they live out of state is dreaming.

You may not like it, but I hired several people in the WFH post-COVID era. Everyone hired remotely was warned that they may be required to move to SE Michigan at some point. It was in their hiring documents as well.

LOL...your role has been "...converted to in person..." because why, you have to sweep floor now? What a joke..I wonder what the criteria was...no, you have to physically kiss the behinds now...we want to see you while you do it. lol

@f1 This sounds reasonable.

Knew a guy who wasn’t exactly terminated but told his role was converted to in person. He ended up having to resign since he wasn’t willing to relocate

They are actively looking for people who don’t show up for work. The best thing to do is to go in five days a week just to be on the safe side.

@c3 I dont think the LL4 has much say, but they are fully aware of all steps. HR is monitoring badge swipes, if you fell below they monitor badge and PC(IP/location/??) IME.

I’ve heard of 1 in my area of PD, but I think it was just an excuse as we aren’t really enforcing the RTO at our site. If our LL4 likes you, you can still work wherever and whenever you like.
