Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Remote-friendly with better benefits

I'm trying to get out of here and find a job in a company where I could work remotely and which has better health insurance. Where are all those who say there are many such companies?

So far I haven't been able to get such an offer. Pretty much all the remotely offers I have considered so far imply better work/life balance, but also worse benefits.

Contractors at Honeywell can work remote, even when they are already in the same city. Not sure why Honeywell thinks it's ok for the contractor but not the full time employee...

Johnson Controls has a lot of remote positions posted.
I am now being paid 50% more than what Honeywell was paying me working 100% remote.

I recently left to do the contractor thing. I'm not considered and independent contractor. I'm an employee of the contracting company. They offer 401(k), health and dental that are way better than Honeywell.

@ezi: I did the contract employee gig for several years after I retired. I was paid a great hourly rate with zero benefits and yes I was considered self employed. In my case I was on my wife's medical insurance plan so that wasn't an issue.

Are contractors offered benefits from these companies, or are they considered self-employed, therefore responsible for insurance coverage out of their own pockets at an outrageous obamacare rate? Come on. If you are going to offer generic advice, at least consider what this poster is actually asking.

Go for contract or contract-to-hire positions. They pay is at least 50% higher. Raytheon, Blue Origin, Boeing, ASM, and Whirlpool are just a few of the companies that are doing it this way and having contractors work completely remote. Many others like Striker and Vir Tra have hybrid schedules. Put your LinkedIn profile up and set to "open to work" so that the recruiters can see it. You can enter in where you want to work, the positions you'll consider, and if you want hybrid, remote, or on site. Do the same on job sites like Monster and Indeed. Then sit back and let the recruiters come to you.
