Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Morale’s completely drained

I’ve never seen so many coworkers checked out at the same time. After the way this year’s gone, it’s hard to feel supported, valued, or even wanted here. People aren’t talking about growing with the company anymore, all they’re doing these days is comparing job postings.

@ex not sure what roles those are but the ones being filled on my team are with zero experience sh-t heads from PA at higher salaries than existing long time staff

@dn, sorry to hear about your situation. I can tell you that there are better opportunities and environments out there. BNY is utterly dysfunctional and I hope clients also see this and eventually leave. These false ratings to meet mandatory cuts are insane. It’s interesting to see positions being opened up for roles that are still occupied with lower salary requirements due to lower rank or lower cost locations. I’ve seen them myself and you can even confirm which person in a group wrote them based on words used and writing style. Come on guys, at least use Eliza to cover that up. Unless you as a hiring manager are sending signals to those that will be impacted. Good luck to you and look at it as a blessing in disguise.

Unless retirement is reasonably near, check the market for other positions. You have nothing to lose.

@ak I was told early by my manager in Everett about me being let go on the 15th because we are close outside of work. His hands were tied he said and they are forcing many groups to do between 25-30% cuts at end of year even with smaller teams. My team in Everett has 18 people and i was one of the cuts I have been here 22 years and have accepted it. I am a bit upset because I put in a lot of effort over the years never got below or off track and am old enough I am close to retirement age early due to savings and my wife working a very decent paying job. I do feel bad though for the people just starting here or the ones hanging on by a thread constantly having to look over your shoulder for a tap to be let go for some member of India or the beloved cesspool of horrible hiring in Lake Mary. I wish you all success here and hope the ones that stay can be ensured safety but I do not see it that way if I am being honest. My manager thinks he is next as he saw 2 openings for his level and 1 above in Lake Mary and he feels they are going to phase out our roles eventually with the 25-30% bottom line cuts coming in December. Good luck all!

In 5 days, more employees are going to be drained too. Boston and Everett are going to get a trim from Robin’s scissors and clippers.

As a follow-up to below: that was 37 as I was eating my lunch and counted for a half hour. That is merely a sample size!!!

It is all the forced AI training and crud; all the outsourcing to Pune; and all the INsourcing FROM Pune to America. Pittsburgh has become “Little Pune.” Just for “fun”, I randomly counted 37 (!) Pune people in Pittsburgh. Circa 2022, there were none.
