I’m due with my baby in a month and I cannot help but feel so bitter. I was laid off back in February and have felt nothing but stress since. Genuinely hate myself for ever considering joining this company.

@wr it was from 12 days ago. It’s still down there. An id--t’s not gonna remove it because they think they’re right. They have no idea what the he-l they’re talking about.
@wp die bi--h. I mean it.
@ac Sad to say but no one will hire you pregnant of course they wont say that but you wont get the job. A baby is a blessing though it will all work out. 🙏
@wp Look at the incel vibes on Brad…
@w5 what original comment? Don't see it.
@w5 slaving means working hard. Not comparing themselves to a slave. You are an id--t too for knowing a basic expression
@vk you are. If you are planning to f-c* n get pregnant don't be on a job. Finish your business n join the workforce when ready to focus. Single men have to pay the price because women either get pregnant n don't do sh-t because their baby is their world or to the Karen's that are not lucky enough to get laid n just angry meaning good for nothing project manager that do nothing other than organize meetings
I'm so sorry this happened to you. Prayers sent your way, hoping you are better off without the stress of this place.
@kn oh wow, you guys got bonuses? Lucky!
@vm it’s not some bean counter that doesn’t know who you are. It’s your immediate supervisor and 1 to 2 levels up from them. Now once that list is sent up when corporate makes the decisions they don’t know, but the initial list starts with supervisors who do know. I know this because I’ve been asked to make the list for the last three years, at least four times a year.
@kn are you really comparing yourself to a slave? You’re an id--t! And it’s not like they get months off with pay. You get reduced pay and if you didn’t pay for the program, you don’t even get that. So my original comment that you’re an id--t stands.
@v0 i can almost GUARANTEE the bean counter that put you on the rif list had no idea you were pregnant.
@kn you are a piece of sh-t
I got laid off 2 months before our baby was born too. At least the state gave me 70% of my pay for 8 weeks for Paid Family Leave even while being laid off. I suspect the company didn't want to pay the hospital bills, deal with FMLA, and be inconvenienced with me trying to juggle work and a newborn
How convenient..get pregnant n get months off while the others slave. Glad they got rid off another fly on the wall n save money for bonus to hard workers who work 12 months a year.
@k8, don't feel that you need to explain yourself. Unfortunately, some people can be insensitive especially when they can be anonymous. In all my years and after raising two of my own children, I have never heard of anyone saving 5-6 years of funds for daycare before they choose to have a child. It's sad that people use online forums to attack others. In their minds, they are able to dehumanize you and others. Like most parents, no one can plan for unforeseen events that can impact them financially when raising children. My daughter has special needs. We could never have predicted that. The vast majority of us do eventually figure events out. I have no doubt that you will too in this difficult time. I wish you the very best with your child and I hope your next job will be so much better than the one you lost.
@ev I’m the original poster. I didn’t just decide wi--y nilly to have a child impulsively, yes I have a savings. The point I was trying to make is that being laid off right before the birth of my child su-ks - no matter what job I get now - it means when I step away I have 0 job protection or paid leave (it’s not fully paid to begin with but I would take 67% over 0). This is 3 months min of 0 income if I get a job that allows me to step away. I also get to interview in secret because of discrimination. :) Now, the question of why was I so “irresponsible” to expand my family and get laid off? Well, I am not Miss Cleo so I didn’t see this coming. My own department had not downsized in years, even prior to my joining the company. So one would say I felt that I didn’t see it coming.
@h6 genuinely, what does the government have to do with being laid off pregnant?
@j0 you can give them up for adoption in worst case scenario. In the current economy using your strategy only the financially elite would be able to have children.
@hz you can sell a house you cant sell a child
@hy a house is a financial decision that can last even longer. Get off your high horse already.
@hx A house or car is not a living breathing being that requires your support for at least 18 years.
For those hating on the person having planned for a family, do you make sure you have the full cost of a house or car before purchasing? If you do, then it seems like maybe you are in an elite part of society financially. If not, I assume that means you are living in a van down by the river or something.
Quit hating on people that make decisions with a basic assumption that they will be employed somewhere. It still su-ks when a plan is uprooted by a change that has nothing to do with their performance and instead is purely because of failures of management in having a plan that isn’t rolling layoffs.
the government is not your baby daddy - be able to afford the kids you have
@f5 I truely dont understand why you would be so mad at this besides that you probably had children without the savings to support them and have made life for you and the people around you miserable.
@ev that’s a really cute plan and I wish you luck. Here’s some math for you, since you have a grandiose plan for kids: daycare right now costs $25,000/year & it goes up each year by 1k.
I am sorry. What should be one of the happiest time of your life has turned into a stress filled nightmare. Corporate America at its finest.
@ev f you. Go to absolute h3ll.
@ev A smart and pragmatic planner.
@dc No I am mainly thinking that if you are going to have a child you should perhaps have enough money for 5-6 years of daycare saved up. I am 28 years old and would love to have a child with my wife but we do not earn enough to save up for things like a birth, daycare, college, etc. so we do not concieve children. It seems grossly irresponsible to me for the people around you and your child if you bring them into this world without being able to ensure that you can take care of them. Its similar to hiring someone that you dont know if you will be able to pay.
@d2 so people who have kids in daycare, and they lose their jobs, it’s their fault for having kids when the market was stable?
@cy I am gonna guess the cruel comments are from either boomers who don’t understand the market today, or people who haven’t moved out of their parents basement yet.
@d2 is Pat Conway on here again drunk?
@cv Whats disgusting is people having children that they cannot financially support until they are adults.
While pregnancy should not be used as a reason to lay someone off or not, we know it is often a factor. Companies also lay off employees who are on medical leave. Equally concerning is the harassment from fellow Optum employees on this site.
@ch You clearly have issues. What a disgusting comment.
This company and its management are extremely cruel!
@ac if you lose your job and can no longer have a baby shower, or besides your personal wants, if you are worried about how you will support said child, perhaps you should not be having a child in the first place.
@ay no job protection on your leave, and nobody hires pregnant women :) hope this helps
@OP You should be happy then. BTW, what does being pregnant have to do with work?
