Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Can somebody explain this pattern to me?

I've been through a few layoff rounds now and I've started tracking who goes. The pattern makes no sense. Hard workers, people with great reviews, people who consistently deliver get cut. People who coast, who hide in meetings, who produce almost nothing stay. People usually explain it as being about salary. High performers have been here longer and make more, which make them targets, and the cheaper people survive. Which makes sense only if you disregard the fact that this sends a message not to be too good at your job. Just be average and cheap and you'll be safe. How is that kind of workforce good for the company?

It's about highest cost, not lowest value. They're really that stupid.

Trust me ,that way we should fvck all the D,SVP,MD. I got rif'ed recently, I was reporting to a VP,I was a VP,my manager VP was reporting to SVP (who became SVP very recently),I had direct reports under me. The actual reason I got rif'ed is I was not seeing any growth as I felt those 2 VP SVP middle layer is unnecessary, so was trying internal opportunity and one of them reached out to my manager for feedback. It was under same MD.

@bg thank you Jane for whatever you do. I hope you get another 40 million in bonuses, I pray you buy another yatch or a private jet or whatever your heart desires. Thank you for offshoring these roles from these privileged countries. They can lick Israel’s @rseh0le, seems to be something that they are pretty good at. God bless you Jane 😊

Are you a Manager? You have zero idea what these people do otherwise.

@b1 you can do the same with the Epstienians. They also do pretty well in terms of bootlicking. Take your kids to them too, you’ll get a big fat bonus

Citi is not a meritocracy as evidenced by lack of decent raises, promotions and overall respect. Layoffs are about redundancy, location cost, employee cost and frankly whether or not they like you or perceive you as a threat. I got RIF'd because I was remote. Remote for over 10 years because Citi closed my site. Great performance, great reviews and liked by my peers. They all scratched their heads too. I am totally happy with being gone. The last 5 years were he11.

I guess Citi has never been meritocratic, more like the mafia - close-knit community at the top, everyone else is expandable, no matter how do they perform.
