Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Bold Predictions for 2026?

So here we are, the third year of the Kobayashi Regime is about to begin. The faux post-COVID “growth” has all but withered up and, if the trend continues, a nose dive should be expected in 2026.

In late 2022, Ogawa proclaimed that the company MUST return to 2019 levels in 2023. That certainly did not happen. Sammy was then installed to be the disruptor, mover & shaker. Hundreds of employees were forced to retire or were laid off in mid-2024. This move has greatly backfired, leading to terrible morale and disgruntled employees nationwide. 2025 was supposed to be the rise of the great “One Canon” strategy. Things are more disjointed now than before the restructuring and merger of CSA & CUSA.

So what will 2026 bring? 2024 = layoffs. 2025 = restructuring. Sammy is down to his last strike in the bottom of the 9th, and he’s no Shohei Ohtani, so expect a huge swing and a miss in 2026.

@j2 I am sure some managers, or people titled as manager, would be sympathetic to a union cause. The only way canon could retaliate would be to promote everyone to manager or can everyone, and they are already attempting the latter as we speak.

@hf the unionization wouldn't be for any corporate teams. It would be for everyone below Upper Management level. The people who have no say in anything that gets done and zero job security.

Probably time to just let dealers sell/service MFP's and get out of the direct business model. Canon Inc will still realize revenue for equipment and parts sales without the overhead of a direct sales and service organization to support a very competitive low end market.

Based on OP’s message, sounds like we’re heading for another “great resignation” situation in 2026 fr. People are gonna leave (which su-ks), but hopefully everyone levels up to something better tbh.
Also ok yeah Sammys the CEO but lets be real, dudes not the only one responsible for this mess. He’s taking advice from the executive team, C Inc and oh I cant forget the expat entourage - so they deserve credit for the current situation as well ngl. People - this is business. Dont take any of it personally and remember its all about the shareholders !
