Any word on the layoffs yet. Anything from Fort hills or firebag?
Happy to see the share price in the toilet. This place is run by mo–ns.
Not sure why everyone is upset or complaining about nepotism. it happens everywhere, no one likes to admit it, but pretty sure you've made a reference or put in a good word for someone before - and pocketed the referral bonus. I've worked in groups where I was the 'only' non-relative and it put the fear of gawd in me during layoff rounds, because I knew exactly who would go first (me).
We talk and complain about being overstaffed, and old-boys club, but this was always the case, we just got some of the leftovers, when the leftovers were good. Now the management is fighting for sc-aps (foie gras ain't cheap) Its not like Suncor is the be-all and end-all. They are a manufacturing company, posing as an energy company, and now pivoting into the biggest scam of all-time (AM/AI - no one even knows what it means) hiring lots of people to create redundancy everywhere and then firing them because you don't need redundancy for 5 Production accountants. Frankly, no one is indispensable (even the GMs or people w/ C's in their title) there and it will play out in the public equities markets. it might just happen sooner than some people (ppl who are left there) will realize
Just a repost from an insider earlier this year:
Oakville/ Mississauga: White collar jobs:
It's "who's your dad" OR "father-in-law". Every Gen Xer on down to Millennial has gotten their job through some now retired boomer who worked or was connected with Suncor/ Petro-Can Oakville.
Lots of deadwood. Really could trim some fat here. A bloated mid-level / Jr Management.
If head office (Calgary) or shareholders were ever dialed in enough there could be some HUGE cost saving's with downsizing/ eliminating this unit.
A lot of money in Oakville......... and their kids had to work somewhere.
This was long overdue...
Is IT affected? If yes, who?
I'd echo what @eon said below - we knew it was coming ever since Syncrude happened - now all the culling starts
Suncor-Syncrude "realization of synergies" never actually happened. This will happen now.
They’ve been overstaffed since the merger with PetroCan.
