Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

COBRA during severance period, you must sign up for the $0 coverage, its not automatic.

Apparently we still need to "sign up" for the Verizon paid COBRA insurance during our severance period.

Medical, Dental, and Vision for you and dependents are $0.
There are additional charges for things like extra life insurance, which you can change (decline).

We have until 3/5/26 to sign up for the Verizon paid COBRA insurance during our severance period, BUT you must still sign up, its not automatic (which was not made very clear by HR...another fail from Verizon in regards to this RIF)

I did mine today, says the Total Annual Cost $0.00.
I printed the sheet in case there is any discrepancy and to cover my a-s!

You do NOT have to enroll in cobra benefits if it is part of your severance package.
The enrollment option automatically populates in the benefits center after being dismissed from verizon. In the event you didn’t get a severance that included paid benefits then you have the option to pay for cobra.
As far as the life insurance if you are paying for extra and want to keep it you will have to pay for that and continue to do so even after your severance period ends.
You will receive a statement in the mail for the life insurance.
Feel free to call the benefits center directly to verify this info as I did.

@215 Medical coverage during the severance period is company paid COBRA. At the end of that, if you are retirement eligible, you can select Verizon retiree coverage. It is NOT cheap, although the plans are the same as the ones you had when working. Talking non-Medicare here. You are better off on the ACA.

If one has to sign up for $0 COBRA, which should be automatic...what about Retirees.? Retiree medical coverage I thought would be available at the end of severance period. . I thought medical coverage would be paid in full by Verizon, then COBRA kicks in months later or Retiree benefits?

@c1 through your severance portal, scroll all the way to the bottom and there is a link to Benefits Connection. Log in with the same user ID/pw that you did when you were a VZ employee. After you do that, there is a big heading at the top of the page to sign up for COBRA. Just make sure all your dollar amounts are zero before submitting.

I just called the called the HR Benefits Number 855-489-2367, and talked to the people that handle that. Found out that my coverage is working until June 4. The important difference that that the last letter of your Group ID changes from an "A" to a "C". New cards were mailed out for this. You might want to call just to be sure.

I never had to do this when I took the VSP. Everything was automatic. Something must have changed.
