Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I'm tired

If I could leave tomorrow I would. I've been at several companies and this is the worst. Maybe it's my age (nearing 50), or burnout, or just the healthcare industry being awful. Probably all of it. I can barely drag myself in. I just wish the economy didn't have me chained here. Unless they cut me. Would be doing me a favor, really.

If the company wants to save money on labor costs, easy, just allow anyone to choose to work fully remote for a 50% pay cut.

It’s the working under consistent job insecurity. Layoffs happen not because of company performance or the individual’s performance but because of cost of labor. Reduce cost of labor for ever increasing margins. And because the leadership will only hire those that look like them.

I quit, my boss was/is a toxic person. I took a massive financial hit. BUT strangely enough working two jobs to make ends meet isn’t as stressful as not knowing day to day if I have a job.

@eh I am sure the person is Gen X. :-) we don’t whine either. The poster has no control if they are let go from Optum. Thank goodness they will get some severance pay out if Optum lets them go.

What a ridiculous post! Just stop whining! 5-10 weeks of severance is not much. I’d rather have my job back. 1000%

So you are waiting for a severance for 3 months and then what? Struggling a year to find a job?

Sounds like a great plan.

Same here. Used to love going to work. Now I dread it. I am in literal pain as I go to work. Daily headaches. Eye pain. Body pain you name it and I am 37. Once I get home away from work headache gone. Pain gone. Stress gone. Daily anger from the stupidity. Unrealistic expectations. And the 1 MA per provider bullsh-t is not working. A lot of us have to go in a jump to help the person expected to be alone.

@OP 💯! I feel the same way you do. I am waiting for the severance package. I have been here a long time. Our work has slowed down. I know the end is near.

I know it is easier said than done but keep your head up. Take autonomy on what you can (keep applying to other roles) and hang tight while you are still with the company. Something will come up!
