Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

A view from the Field...

I haven't seen much discussion from the remote side of the business so i thought I would chime in. I as a FOT was in the first wave of cuts, got my check and sold the stock while moving forward. I stay in contact with the skeleton crew that was left behind hearing how overworked they are trying to fill in the gaps in ticketing, maintenance and lighting issues. A few of those who stayed accepted orbit changes and hung on for a few weeks and jumped ship without a severance finding more stable positions elsewhere. My question is just how does the mgt plan to handle the upcoming disasters field folks deal with when the weather turns afoul...are they to continue running a skeleton crew, learning CM roles and train on the new ServiceNow platform? This recipe seems to be disastrous for customer and landowner relations. With the high price of vegetation management among other maintenance I see the entire maintenance SOW being outsourced real soon.

As a FOT who survived the lay offs I can tell you that I'm overwhelmed with my current work load. The pressure to complete the ATT ground based inspections, learn the Construction Manager's position, Site access issues, Incident tickets & security tickets is too much. I spend a lot more time driving and now weather comes to play for the higher elevation locations that I have to drive to. I keep telling the FOTs who were let go that was probably the best thing that happened to them. At one time my site count more than doubled. The manager had to make the site count more manageable for the remaining techs. I dread opening outlook in the morning because that usually set the tone on what tickets I have to respond to and fit them in on what I already planned for that day. At one time I thought this was the best job I ever had. Now I'm just waiting to make my move to leave.

@egd+1pbIrBQN AMT is based in Massachusetts. At least get your facts straight before running your mouth. It’s a quick google search, Einstein.

I beg to differ on the previous post...The ENTIRE country "has talent to do what we do"...Not just Houston or Cannonsburg...If Houston was closing we would STILL have this battle.

You guys talk like canonsburg is the only place that has talent to do what we do. You realize that AMT and SBA are based in Florida. By your logic since neither are in cannonsburg, they should have failed as companies by now.

Crown castle has a site standards handbook that they currently cannot comply with using thier existing FOTs. Customers and JXs will sla-ghter Crown with thier own manual if they charge premium rental fees but fail to perform simple maintenance that reduces risk associated with tower and site safety/appearance/obligation.

Who thought it'd be a great idea to cut out the quality field people and think combining field resources into a single job role would work out well? Yeah, lets cut out senior experienced people who do all the heavy lifting to save a few hundred thousand dollars in wages, which will cost MILLIONS in lost assets and increased liabilities??? How does taking budget away from OPS benefit the ever growing maintenance requirement of aging assets? And now no one has the time to look at each site or have money to fix it??? I'm not sure what person thought this was a good idea, but I point to failed experience and leadership at the highest level (JB) for a failing to be good stewards of the investors money and the customers lease payments.

Oh, and closing Cannonsburg and running off some of THE BEST TALENT in the industry is like using Crown investment dollars to buy AMT or SBA stock!

A drone can do 60% of your job, if CC can come up with a solution where unmanned drones can leave Houston and fly all over the USA and return with all they need for CCI Sites.
No need for rolling trucks with live people.

As one of the office workers….I think of the field people all the time. I remember all the openings they had and how you were championed as the front line heros. You are because you all are out in conditions I can’t imagine. You’re all getting fu---d.

It seems obvious that they no longer care what happens to towers during hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, landowner issues etc.
