Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Is OpenText trying to cheat people out of severance?

The severance letter says sacrificed employees must return equipment within 5 business days of the last working day to receive severance. OpenText told our former colleagues they would provide them with the box and prepaid label. That sounds straightforward.

However, I know one person who has yet to receive the box and label. They are well beyond the 5-day limit.

Another person received the box three days after being axed. But, the box included two separate forms of instructions that both say in bold font they had 10 days. One set of instructions explicitly says to refer to the other set on how and what to return. So there is no mistake that two different documents stating 10 days were included.

How can the Waterloo braintrust enforce the 5 days with conflicting instructions and/or delay in providing the promised return kits?

OoenText is one big communication nightmare. More time is spent making PowerPoint presentation look good than working on how to communicate and execute. That’s why the board does not realize how bad it is in the trenches.

@eg You're right-- recovery costs more than the value of the hardware, but the goal is data security, for whatever that's worth.

Like every other layoff, HR over extended themselves. They’re always unprepared, unorganized, unprofessional and can’t seem meet the deadlines they set themselves!

Imagine being a manager and finding out OT decided to include one of your employees in a WFR BUT FORGOT TO TELL YOU UNTIL 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE CALL.

YES, that happened to me during the first round of layoffs after the Micro Focus acquisition.

So none of this is surprising but be sure to email them daily and follow up with phone calls until you get a response.

Document everything!

Not sure why they would want my laptop. It's over 6 years old and out of warranty. The recovery might be worth more than the laptop itself.

They are all talk..
Have your friend open a ticket and then hound the sh!t out of them with the case #. I didn't receive a box for 10 days. I sent it back the same day. I got proof of when I shipped it back AND Proof of delivery. They claimed to not have received it for a week after POD. They held back the first severance check but paid double the next check. Keep proof of shipment and pay extra for POD (they will then not only confirm but give the signature and name of warehouse person who signed.)
The key to the game is assume they will fu'k up every step of the way and hound them. Sadly they are only good at laying off..not the mechanics or logistics that follow. Hope this helps.

@OP Everything is tracked by the courier. If you don’t receive it to be able for them to be able to enforce the timeline they can’t argue you didn’t meet the timeline.

They're just clueless, not intentionally evil. Doesn't change the end result. Fu-k em.
