RTO IP Tracking

I heard from my manager they are in the process of setting up IP tracking to determine how many hours a week you are in the office - presumably with end goal to have dashboard like 11 RTO days but now including how many hours your IP showed you in office.

Anyone have further details on IP or any other in office tracking being implemented?

I'm hoping this goes the same way as their development of badge in/badge out tracking which they were too incompetent to implement successfully, which is why we only have the badge in system now.

Current Understanding on Tracking
FTE - Badge swipe ins per month / 11
Contractors - Sapience Micromanagement Software

Manager officially shared out today with our team that this IP tracking to in office is definitely happening. No details on what or how accountability will be held yet, but it’s not a rumor anymore. Manager even stated this is already being looked at NOW.

Rumor has it that this tracking will start on 4/1 but that's all I've heard. So many questions...

  • Do we now need to show 66+ hours per month?
  • Or will your badge scan for a given day not count unless you also have 6+ hours on the corp wifi/IP?
  • Does idle time (lunch, bathrooms breaks, etc.) still count?
Hopefully someone can chime in given that "HR Transparency" is an oxymoron.

@1fm k. They can update the HR article with it and make it formal. Until then shrug

@1fm I'm not wearing nice clothes into an office with peeling paint on the walls, falling apart ceiling tiles, and bedbugs.

This is true and confirmed by 2 different sources in the executive meetings. RTO will be tracked + 6hrs tracked on computer to be connected to Hub location internet. Yes, we are all going to be babysat now.

Maybe it’s all those ‘people working in yoga pants’ that make GK angry. Yes, she has said this.

They are only trying to find reasons to fire people because it would look really bad for large layoffs. Not enough of us quit when they forced RTO so they made their little tweaks with the performance reviews. There will be people who get fired this year that did not comply with the 11 day RTO. Now they're tightening the strings a little more to prep for next year's firings.

I feel for the middle managers (I am so incredibly lucky to have such an amazing one). They have to deal with the real backlash of the MCs bs. They have to enforce these arbitrary things that they know are doing more harm than good and cannot do anything about it but lose great employees.

If they are tracking this, just be transparent. Start treating us like adults. I don't get why that is so hard for HR.

HR has long ways to go to build back the trust they destroyed after the changing of the guard about 5-6 years ago. Remember when we used to have HR reps? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

@dq

Open software self service and look for a program called Work Process Analytics. If it's there, Sapience is on your PC.
Another way is to open task and look for
"leaf". If it's there, it's tracking you at that very moment.

Stop blaming others for WHY they are inflicting this level of control. Truthfully, if the work is being accomplished and well then what is the need to control where it gets done from? It was never this way before. This is another avenue to invoke fear, control and utilize it as an excuse to target individuals or teams. They would have done it regardless of "abusing" RTO mandates. And wonder why the volume of attrition. U think employees beat down and controlled to the level we are are going to want to be creative and enthusiastic about ideas and collaboration to generate profit? Get your boot off my neck! Make it hard for them. Give em back what they give us. They have to answer to the stockholders.

They should just invest in handcuffs at this point and leadership csn lock us to our desks to track us abd our level of compliance. USB branded adult diapers for all RTO employees.

@eg Not to mention the "return" was never to the same arrangement (hoteling, open office etc. ) to what it was when they had left (dedicated cubicle).

@ae the real "abuse" here is calling committed non-covid remote positions being forced into call centers a "return." The abuse is calling it "collaboration" for people who have NEVER had a work-related conversation at the call center (I refuse to call it an office.) The abuse is prioritizing form over function. The work is still 100% remote, they just dictate that it be from a less efficient and comfortable environment now.

When I was on a local team and hybrid I really appreciated being able to work with my coworkers. When I joined a national team that was fully remote, of course it no longer made sense to go to the office when I could be 2x as productive at home. I adapted, and then they abused their position (legal? Yes. Ethical? No) and changed it for no good reason.

@e6 Not always. Mine had been on my machine for several weeks collecting data before they formally announced it and showed us all how it worked.

@dq they have to inform you that it's on your machine.

I’m pretty sure if this was to be implemented it would have already. Everyone who works from home already has to use VPN to log in. This could be easily tracked.

How do you know if sapience is installed

@af
The majority of RMC also has Sapience installed, not just contractors.

@b3 I can't even imagine the time and money being spent on this tracking sh-t. Considering we're supposed to be all about efficiency and money making goals, this is directly opposed to all of that. Happy employees are productive. Miserable employees are not.

The weird fixation on RTO by the “leaders” means they spend time and money on this instead of on initiatives that can produce revenue and reduce costs. It also creates a corrosive environment.

@ae Coffee badging is not abusing RTO. And “leaders” who are obsessed on where people physically locate while working are not leaders.

This is true. I know a few analysts involved with creating the reports and report pulling methods.
Same with the non exempt employee clock in changes in workday. Employees are given two minutes to find a desk, wipe it off, connect everything, log in, and the click the Check In/Clock In button.
They are doing anything to find a reason for a write up.

Just an FYI, Sapience has been deployed HEAVILY in the operations org under Souheil. It’s not just for contractors. I suspect it’ll be implemented to most orgs as they continue to look for areas to make cuts in.

@ac this is the same understanding I have from my leader as well. And I am seeing more leaders spot checking for full-days in office. I hate to say this but I have people on my team who have abused RTO that are part of the problem we all have to abide by now.

I think it's safe to assume that they're watching IPs or are doing some form of "time in office" monitoring. I'd guess they're looking for people who are swiping and leaving, or coming in for an hour and leaving. There are still plenty of those to crack down on, regardless of how you feel about those actions.

Can anyone confirm it? Not a clue. This has been circulating around for over a year now and nothing concrete has come of it.
