Hey everyone, quick question if someone files for short-term disability and it’s under review with MetLife, do they need to use PTO while waiting or does coverage start right away? Also, should they inform their manager, HR, or both? Appreciate any insight.

@d5 that's the disability ironically. We have a lot of people with this disability apparently.
@OP WF has a 7 day waiting period before your STD pay kicks in so you would use 5 days pto. You’ll need to talk to your manager and then apply through MetLife.
@ee lose access to vpn. basically lost access to everything.
only.some workday is.accesable and no download of pdf report
@OP You have to use 5 sick days. It was not MetLife when I applied, but I stayed 3 to 4 weeks without working before the approval. I only put in workday the initial 5 days as sick.
@a1 It is not partial. STD is 100% for up to six months.
@a3
They lack the ability to look it up for themselves.
Also they will make mistake on your insurance premium. Make sure you check your every paycheck, And do not pay them separately.
You should tell your manager. they will mark it in workday calendar.
You will lose system access. So print or screen shot everything before that.
@OP Advise or ignore. This is a question for HR, not The Layoff site.
1 week of pto, you can notify your mngr as a courtesy. They just switched to metlife and there's been a few hiccups in the transition.
Generally once it’s approved, you kick it off with a week of PTO. As far as pay when out, it depends on your years of service with the company. It’s all online in the benefits book.
I'd go see a doctor to get that STD taking care of.
Short-term disability (STD) coverage with MetLife rarely starts immediately; a waiting period (often 7 to 14 days) is required before payments begin. During this, you usually must use PTO or sick leave to receive pay. If approved, STD payments are often only a partial percentage of your salary
