Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Hitting middle age and wondering what comes next

I’m nearing 50 and I see how fast people my age get pushed out at Xerox. Friends with years of experience are still out there searching. It is crazy to me how companies just toss aside everything you have learned like it never mattered as soon as you hit a certain age.

@ed, the fact that you work at Xerox speaks volumes about why we are in so much trouble. Is English a second language for you? I assume that you are HCL...

When you look at current demographics and what a significant number of young workers have no interest and or experience in, things are not as bad as they may seem.

Most of the people in xerox is over 60+ and they all have few years left until they retires. They all pretty much going to ride it out. if you are under 55 better look for new job because this company not going to last you to 65 retirement , just saying. My team are pretty all gone and they never backfill younger people. I only have 1 64 year old and he going to work 1 more year and he gone

@c8 🍆🤮🫃🏼covered the negative end of the career spectrum very well. On the positive side, you should do what most people with careers do in the 21st century:

  1. Determine what skills, talents, training and education you bring to the table.
  2. Determine what you would like to be doing over the next 15-20 years. (Be reasonable)
  3. Find a company and job that fulfills 1 & 2.
You work for a business, and one that is financially on the ropes, not a charity. I assume you are not on the SLT. Even if you are the greatest, you are not going to see a pay increase greater than 3% at Xerox. Find another job before your life becomes what 🍆🤮🫃🏼described.
The best you can reasonably hope for at Xerox is the company circles the drain for another 15 or 20 years.

what comes next is you work as hard as you can doing multiple jobs and su-king up to the boss to try and hang on to a pathetic job at that toxic cesspool that is xerox. You get canned on the Friday before Thanksgiving, go home and cry yourself to sleep, then proceed to mope around for the next month. You apply to hundreds of jobs with zero call-backs. You get depressed, start smoking crack, become a homeless b-m, and then start who-ing your @ss out for your next hit.

Nearing 50. Ha, I wanted to get out in my 40s. Lots of interviews, I started hearing that I had too much experience in my 40s. I knew then that they thought I was too old. You have nothing to worry about relating to getting pushed out. Younger people quit as soon as they are expected to perform.....

Look at the average age of the employees around you and across Xerox. Xerox is an old company with no back fill from a younger generation interested in working here.
