Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

TIAA culture summed up in one quote

Noting drains a high performer faster than realizing their reward for excellence is cleaning up someone else's incompetence.

If you know you know

The company keeps say we are going to cut stuff that doesn’t line with their mission or goals. But when they fire those people they expect us to keep doing the same work and work we are working on. They need to do a hard rest and figure out what are main responsibilities and goals. TIAA is a rich kids that keeps dropping out of college and expects mommy and daddy to bail them out. I can’t wait for daddy nuveen to give them the figure and leave TIAA. They need to learn to hard lesson and get their sh-t together already. This place is this biggest joke. I seen kids run a company better than TIAA.

@gb why would anybody ask you if you’re okay? You guys continuously post that you’re not happy and then feed off of each other’s toxicity. What do you expect the company to do? Should they reverse a key business decision because you’re not happy with it? You are an adult and need to deal with it like an adult. This is what’s wrong with this company- Employees thinking they should run the show instead of it being a business. Your entitlement is out of this world.

If you guys are truly high performers, why are you whining and crying, instead of finding better jobs at higher pay?

You know they are “adjusting” the numbers or throwing out “outliers.”

@g6+1jv7zbyvf 100% agree. The struggle is real!!!
We Denver folks need to keep each other in good spirits. No one else will… not when the fresh young talent in Frisco is so exciting for senior leadership they are foaming out of the mouths of the smiles on their face.

Good luck to HR trying to find replacements in Frisco. Good luck to anyone in Denver who is relocating as you’ll be out of a job within a year when they replace you with Frisco to increase numbers for the tax purposes and also decrease your expensive salary. Happened wife to NYC when Denver open and again when Charlotte opened so pretty much guaranteed to happen again.

Also I wonder who answered the survey in Denver (or Jacksonville)… Some won’t respond because they don’t care others may give a horrible score. Either way I feel the company will throw out our answers or separate them whenever they produce the results.

Well, now I know that about 25% of the people here are managements and HR schmucks. Thanks. Well played.

I think Upton Sinclair also summed up the management culture at TIAA pretty well despite never having worked there. Sinclair wrote,

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”

To me, that is the only way to explain some of the bullying behaviors from inexperienced managers and the HR schmucks assigned to them. Outside of work they may be normal people.....mothers, fathers, neighbors, etc. but at TIAA they become like ruthless little prison guards with no ability whatsoever to stand up to impossible or harmful management demands and zero professional respect for any fellow employee who cannot hurt them or fire them.

I would not even consider hiring anyone who was a manager at any level at TIAA. I know how they roll and I know how they roll-over. And if anyone reading this fits that bill, then I'm talking directly to you. Look in the mirror and ask yourself what you've had to rationalize as a manager at TIAA. A termination you knew was political? A denial of a raise, bonus or review rating that you KNEW had been earned? Did you ever just clam up at a management summit when you KNEW you had important information that your bosses didn't want to hear?

Yes? Then you su-k. You su-k as a leader, you su-k as a manager and you su-k as a person of character. I hope your big manager job at TIAA was worth your dignity.
