Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Hess townhall

Hess just had a townhall with CVX high ups. It was mentioned that Hess is being considered for the new CVX go forward plan. The previous poster was correct….Hess Force coming to steal the CVX jobs.

@k5 - eb here. Yes, they will keep the bare minimum, mostly field facing staff. But the reorg only hurts chances of Hess retention. Suddenly we have a surplus of staff, and make no mistake, a certain amount of homeless highpots have been set aside to take leadership roles at Hess (I’ve actually seen a tiny bit of the plans). What you’re missing is how self obsessed CVX is. There is a tacit belief, particularly among the lifers, that Chevron is superior in every way and we’ll need to cleanse you of your incompetence. Furthermore, you’ll need to be “right sized” to our new org structure, meaning centralized roles to HOU or overseas. And when it comes to making a choice for positions where it’s one of yours or one of ours, more often than not it will be ours. You can anticipate 30-40% staff reductions, with primary targets being engineers, IT, procurement, technical SMEs and mid- level management.

@eb would make sense if they weren’t currently going through a reorg. But to think that a $53 billion merger wouldn’t come with some Hess retention is silly, even if a majority of it is tied to Guyana.

As someone who has been acquired by Chevron twice, let me assure you they have no plans for Hess staff to be absorbed outside of whatever the bare minimum is to keep the lights on. Chevron values external labor/talent somewhere around how they value the office furniture. They’ll replace your senior staff/management with CVX staff in order to “teach you the Chevron way.” Staff retained are treated like second class citizens, paid around 80% of your equivalent Chevron peers. You’ll be last in line for raises/promotions. You’ll be talked down to and diminished when you try to challenge things within your field/expertise. Some folks break through, but typically the slimiest ones who can mold themselves to the toxic culture. In 18 months, 50% of the retained staff will be so fed up they’ll have quit anyway.

Can't be true. During litigation, it is impossible (read that, illegal) for Chevron to be meeting with Hess in any capacity. I agree with what others have said, Hess staff is too small in number to have any consequential effect on post-layoff Chevron plans, other than Bakken and Guyana.

They wouldn’t be taking anyone’s job. Chevron has too many employees for the assets they have, and way too many people not doing anything. They need to purge the WFH/ COVID hires. This layoff would have and should have happened no matter what happens with HESS. They don’t have that many employees. I would assume natural attrition through the sale will make the need for post acquisition layoffs very unlikely. If there is one it will be on a small scale.

Hess employee here......the OP is incorrect and seems to be trolling for the sake of getting people riled up. In the townhall, CVX HR lady clearly stated that Hess employees are NOT being considered for CVX jobs PRIOR to legal close. She did not say anything at all on the subject of whether Hess employees would be considered for CVX jobs AFTER legal close.
