Target's new CEO is thrown into crisis mode on day one

  • Michael Fiddelke, who started at Target as a finance intern, takes over the top job at the retailer on Sunday.
  • He must deal with declining sales and civil unrest in Minneapolis, the city where Target is based.
  • The company's outgoing CEO will stay on as executive chairman, raising questions about how much change is possible.

Look at the two leaders promoted today....lifers at Target, like Mike. Time for outside blood. Bring in some leaders from WalMart. The ship is sinking with the ex CEO in the chairman seat. Look at what Best Buy did when it was facing similar head winds. Hubert Joly was the savior for BBY. Target should hire him. :)

@e8 Given the history of micromanagement at Target, BC staying on checks out.

All three of those bullets are valid concerns. I think BC staying in as chairman is the biggest mistake. If we make a leader change, we can’t have the former leader sitting there watching over the new leader’s shoulder.
