Broadband and Network technicians will be left behind, the copper will be decommissioned like it should have been 15 years ago, and then mass layoffs.

@am copper will go away where qf will be available. If a copper ticket has a repair where qf is it will not be fixed. Repair instruction is not to enter tickets.
@e7 if you move to att you will need to apply for the job. It's not automatic
I read AT&T outsources most installs to third party companies like Mastec.
Att says they want to get lumens fiber area penetration up from 20% to 40%. That’s going to take employees. Hopefully.
ATT does not do mass layoffs. They force people to move, or quit. It keeps them from paying severance. Hopefully, though doubtful, there were some employment protections put in place for the sale.
“The mass layoffs will happen immediately after Att takes over“
pinky swear? Or are you just teasing?
@cg what is the LUMN and MSFT masterplan? Can you please explain?
The mass layoffs will happen immediately after Att takes over.
Lumen will follow with its own mass layoffs.
Kate and Microsoft's Master Plan is a done deal.
2027 will be "we need to launch a residential fiber product because we have all this metro fiber just sitting here unused"
Just like selling off cellular to Airtouch and starting PCS not long after.
SHOW ME THE VSPP!!
Seriously though, Copper isn’t going anywhere just yet, Lumen has just made a deal to sell the mass markets cash cow!! In a year no more Revenue will come from Quantum.. so Good chance that Kate leaves this summer with a big bonus. the company gets new CEO because that’s what we do here, we change leadership halfway through every evolution/transformation
Plus it’s now time to come full circle, Because that’s what we do here, is start doing the what’s old is new again program. the slogan for 2026 will be … make copper profitable again!!
CO based DSL is competitive now let’s Sell Sell Sell, install install install, Blitz Blitz Blitz!!
“Broadband and Network technicians will be left behind, the copper will be decommissioned like it should have been 15 years ago, and then mass layoffs.”
Why wouldn’t broadband or net techs go to att if they chose to?
