Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Fidelity 5 days

https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2026/04/29/fidelity-to-bring-employees-back-to-the-office-5-days-a-week/

Ok folks who complain about THREE day requirement- TIAA continues to be the outlier here. For those who threaten to leave over this requirement - not only is the job market difficult, your options to work from home also seem to be dwindling. So maybe switch career paths as the industry is almost exclusively in office or appreciate what TIAA offers its employees?

@jt read the first sentence. As this article came out this week the change is this September for 5 days in office.

Also check the Fido boards here on layoff site it is effective this September.

The writer was stating the old policy change in 2024.

I feel for our participants and my own money here if the employees here don’t have basic reading comprehension skills.

Here it is again. First sentence is the new requirement . The last sentences was the old requirement.

“Fidelity is pulling its Boston workforce back to the office full-time in September, marking a major change from the company’s current hybrid work plan.

“Fidelity’s belief is that being physically together creates more opportunities for a meaningful associate experience filled with connection, mentorship, and learning — elements that are central to our long-term success,” the financial company said in a statement.

Fidelity has about 6,200 employees in Boston with more than 80,000 globally.

Beginning in September 2024, Fidelity workers were required to be in the office for two weeks out of every four. Before the pandemic, Fidelity required one of the four weeks to be in-person. ”

@gq wrong... not an old article as this was a news article in Ignites yesterday which is a free subscription for TIAA associates. Maybe you need to subscribe and reread the article.

September 2024 was for two of 4 weeks which is essentially the same as TIAA current 3 day a week policy...

However this coming September will be 5 days a week.

@e2 I (posted before as @am ) actually got a really good pay increase after the TIAA layoff as fully remote... Very simialr work just maybe a little less benefits specifically Pension/401k (which is not an issue). But if I relocated to Frisco I'd be same salary and unhappy for a multitude of reasons.

But yeah remote jobs are out there... Just gotta know where to look ;)

@e2 I know lots of people with full remote jobs making a great salary and they are legit jobs. They are out there.

Yep! Three day hybrid is good. Truly. If you’re able to get it better elsewhere, then you wouldn’t be complaining here. So, look at your own inabilities.

JPM five days, Harford at 4 per, and almost all our direct competition is three days in office.

Just wondering where this utopia is fully remote jobs are. Especially without have to take a massive pay cut.

This doesn’t include their Westlake TX campus that has 5000+ employees and competes with TIAA Frisco for workers. If it did and TIAA stayed hybrid it might actually help TIAA on the hiring front.

@bs ah, I read that wrong. Read it as Frisco was declining when they meant they declined.

Got it. Brain fa-t.

@bp They were laid off because they declined the Frisco relocation.

@am you got laid off from the Frisco office? I thought they were doing everything they could to fill that empty shell of a building.

Yeah, wish we could use gifs on here.
Glad I left Fido years ago and thankful that TIAA laid me off due to declining Frisco relocation. Now I'm fully remote with a competitor.

That said if I had to do it all over again I'd change industries completely.
