Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What’s the tea on JH?

Another big dog “retiring.”

Between his 33 years at Nike and the royalties he gets from Twilight and Lego (for use of his stunning house in the hills), he’s probably set for many lifetimes over.

But he seems to have managed to stay out of all the controversies out of the year.

@OP JH was a good guy. Never heard a bad word.

I was fond of his management style and vibe. Vision wise he did think of interesting designs and took us to some new heights with AIR. But I personally didn’t buy the idea that the consumer needed / wanted more AIR. Especially for performance products.

@e7 none of the GT people on this website actually know anything about the company

Is it not ok for some with 33 year tenure to actually decide to retire?

@dy You have not heard of - seriously? No way you work at Nike and don't know who JH is, or other recent departures for that matter. What a mo--n; stop trolling.

Most of the ones that have left recently ( JH included) i had not even heard off before.

Maybe he found out was expected to fo actual work going forward?

The only recipients of residuals on films are actors, writers and directors. A location would not receive residuals, owners are paid a one time “rent” or usage fee. Same goes for the LEGO collab, only ones profiting is the film franchise and LEGO. And BTW, JH sold the house a few years back.

@d8
Miss alignment is my bet. JH was about one offs and high heat clicks. PM wants to sell shoes.

This is a direct response to PM new role scope. But unknown if a push out or misalignment in direction and JH said time to go.

To be honest, he is not that exceptional. He is passionate and has common sense for sure but I don’t think visionary and legendary are the right words for him…AIR is far from innovative to me.

Again, he is still a good leader compared to the rest, curious who is going to take over the role though.

JH helped run Nike innovation into the ground. There hasn’t been a blockbuster shoe in over a decade under his watch. He owes the company millions! I’m serious

JH is and will always be awesome! This seemed inevitable given his tenure and recent new roles that seemed almost made up to allow him to stay. Much respect for him though; he will be missed. He was always kind, respectful and never acted bigger than the little guy. A true gentleman and visionary.

Is it a play on words? He’s a tool but also a tool to the organization, meaning he fixes things? So the next tool should be a fresh, newly minted tool, to fix our current issues.
