Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Huge cuts coming up.

Dan has been give 20-30% reduction in costs now. There will be massive cuts for 3P and employees. Expect layoff, expect old investigations opened up, and expect minor issues to result in termination. The teams that will be hit are EDAO, P&C IT, Corp and Bank. No one is safe but those are the target areas

@2pv genpact is notorious for subpar work especially if the work is subcontracted out to Indian work centers. Before that happens, update your resumes.

@dx on that note hearing rumors in Bank IT that both PK and Rama Rayapu are trying hard to bring one of their own consulting companies(Genpact) to support Fraud space even thought there is pushback

People are getting let go for minor infractions. No chance to say I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking and I won't do it again. Nope. You're just gone. No severance. Not eligible for rehire. Adios, muchacho!

No need to send via email. From any personal device at home, connect to OneSource and you'll be able to download everything, similar to what we do with W2s. I think it's Usaa.myworday.com and use okta verify to login. Temporarilly disable your personal VPN, if any, for this to work.

@11k you’re allowed to email yourself paystubs, W2 information along with end of year reviews. I’ve been doing that every year in the 16 years I’ve been here, no one has said anything to me.

@x1 yes send internal communications through our USAA firewall and send to your personal email.

Let me know how well that works out for you.

So, is this all conjecture ir is there solid proof that this will be happening? Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? No one truly knows otherwise there would be direct facts listed.

@x0 true, I was in office on January 28th when 2 girls on my team were impacted and escorted out of the building by security. Both in tears as they got 15 minute “Quick Sync” meeting invites to meet in a conference room.

I can't imagine wanting my official "accomplishments" after getting lays off. The handful of contacts I would actually care about I have collected a long time ago. As for pay stubs, you can still get them from HR afyer being terminated. It may be a bit of a chore to get them but you can do it. Of course, it's easier to get them while you still have internal HR access amd cam directly download them yourself but it's not really that big of a deal.

But to make your life easier is best to always be prepared. More important than all these backward lookimg neasures us: get ready to jump into the job market. Dust off that resume. Reactivate your external contacts. Get freshened up on what's going on outside USAA. Becausecone day that's skew you will be. Hopefully much later on your own terms, but maybe tomorrow.

This week, remember to get all the information from company network (contacts, phone nums, emails, accomplishments, recent payslip, etc.) because once shown the door, you don't have access to all of these anymore. Good luck everyone.

If you get an unexpected meeting invite from your manager or director, that could be it. Prepare your speech and how you might react in such intense situation. Or don't report to the office as you will be immediately walked out. Prepare, prepare.

What's the total population of EDAO, P&C, Corp, and Bank IT? Is it 2K or 3K or more? If 3K for example, 30% is 900 and that's a lot. For an average team of 25, 7 or 8 will be cut, team of 10, 3 will be out. I've heard that this week might be the week.

"At USAA, we take care of our own." ... even to the expense of our employees. Yes, we'll sacrifice our employees. But wait, I am also a member employee and you lay me off? You're not taking care of me at all! Shame on you USAA, you should change your tv ad catchy phrase.

@ha well, what was the COSA score for ECIO under the previous Indian CIO? Im sure you will say it was your hard work, which I don’t deny. But other COSAs didn’t get those scores. I think ERC under Indian EVP did score high. I guess you will never accept them as American even though they are citizens? Maybe color has something to do?😉

This post seems legit. Last week in SAT, our managers, directors, AVPs, and all the way up were busy taking inventory of everything from software to headcount. As in the past, we see the announcements made here before they actually happen. Consider this site your early warning system.

Are there any valid facts behind this post, or is it just people randomly posting? I have been with the company for just 7 months. Also, it is interesting to see so much hatred towards & against each other & teams. So much passive-aggressive culture.

I agree about the privacy office and info security but I think info sec has already been sliced at so privacy is probably more low hanging fruit for Dan. I heard there was a planned move into SLOD for that team by end of Q2. It’s not Karma it’s more like reality and efficiency. Why do they have a 20 + team and do not do any of the work as well as have mini privacy teams per group/area?

I've gone through a layoff myself before and it was rough. I've thought of ending it all and then came USAA and I had hope. And here we go again.

Unfortunately, if things are falling apart, the only way to turn a profit is to reduce headcount, and that is not sustainable. That works on Wall Street but not with a private company. You do not have investors to impress and no stock price to move , only members who have given more than most and deserve an experience that reflects that commitment.

While expanding membership eligibility may address volume concerns in the short term, it risks diluting the brand's unique identity and the trust that took decades to build.

It is increasingly difficult to demonstrate genuine care for members and their financial well-being when it becomes harder to differentiate from competitors. For the first time in my life, I am looking at other options.

Giving three billion dollars back to members sounds significant until you do the math. Spread uniformly across 14 million members, that is roughly $214 per member per year, while USAA simultaneously raised my home insurance premium by $1,000 with no prior claims. The net result is a loss of $786 before I even start counting.

Meanwhile, member attrition is often attributed to external factors, but internal dynamics are worth examining too. Until member service metrics are quantified and honestly compared with competitors, nothing changes, and the members who built this company will keep doing the math and ask, "What do I get in service to justify the extra cost ?" Right now, no one can answer that question. Pretty sad.

@ew You are evil & full of sh-t. Don't have any idea why you wish for people getting laid off & be happy about it. Karma is real & cruel. What you give is what you will get.

People, let's just focus on what's to come, 30% cut is huge. All of us have lives and responsibilities and losing a job is no joke. We all deserve to be here and for many years now, we have been letting go of people who don't perform well on the job. But I dislike the CIO firing people because he wants to replace them with his own. And I also don't like being overloaded at work because they let go of my colleagues. Worst, I don't want to be laid off because I earned my position here and I have worked so hard.

It's no coincidence that Google went down the path of enshittification when it put an Indian at the helm. Ditto for Microsoft. Indian execs have a way of rapidly liquidating brand value for short term gains, destroying product usability by pushing nagging monetization at every interaction. It's like street begging is in their DNA.

@dx if they are hiring h1bs that just means they are more capable than some of whiny bi--hes. Wonder why many successful software companies have immigrant CEOs. It’s also funny that people who are fired in some other teams for non performance wants the job for h1b holders who were retained because of their talent! Remember, it’s no more cheap labor , they are paid pretty well!

They need to get rid of tcs and the boot lickers that allow their cr-p to get escalated.

Tcs has zero money laundering skill and needs to be trained or let go…

So do Bank technology executives. And they are hiring executives on H1B visa? That’s a new and curious it happened right after Amala left. Many took that as an opportunity to hire and promote their own before Dan showed up. But looking at the recent firing of executives I support Dan but it would be better to take a look at the levels under them as well.
