Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Do you actually have something to do?

Cause I'm pretty much idle most of my workday. Not sure if anyone else feels that way. After layoffs projects stalled and everyone seem to just pretend to do something. With Claude I'm pretty much done after 2, maybe 3 hours of work. Not really interested in trainings also, and I won't be-doverbackwards for this company anymore.

If today is anything like before I was given notice… you are likely going in or logging on and just trying to appear busy… creating your own work. I tried to find assignments for myself and my team because my manager wasn’t and couldn’t. It was not the manager’s fault but the fault of a chain reaction that upper management didn’t know what to do with or even care about an inherited team post covid. It was and is a disaster. You have to figure what has happened to Spirit Airlines over time is happening to Sabre before your eyes. Be proactive and be ready when notice comes your way. If it makes financial sense, wait for your severance. If a great opportunity comes your way or you find one… get out right then and don’t look back. Stop rearranging the deck chairs…

@OP lol so you're one of those people who open a pr right after copilot generates something, without paying any attention to it?
You're the best, keep up the great work! 💪 Thanks to people like you this company is great and is getting greater every day!

@1dn - you bet. It is Al garbage. Mismanagement has played strait into this. I remember the CEO “crying” crocodile tears about never having laid anyone off and how that would hurt, sometimes dramatically, people’s lives. He and the C-suite continue to do it again and again. The fact of the matter is no company ever shrinks their way to profitability or prosperity. SABRE is clear evidence of that fact. Best of luck to you and to all of us who so proudly worked at Sabre - giving our all.

@zq just curious about this : wouldn’t they get paid less? Cause I am pretty sure my manager was pushing me towards sending my résumé and get hired via them , but I said no.

@197 Thank You for Sharing this link. Helps one better understand why you should not take getting RIF'ed too personally. Still hurts though..

There is a great channel on YouTube called “Life After Layoff.” Go and watch these. I was laid off from Sabre three years ago and everything this guy says on this channel is spot on! This is one example:

Fin fact, I know people whose been terminated, took severance and came back month later hired by coforge. This company of ours is a joke sometimes.

@xp not to worry, the ones who are maintaining the “who will be terminated next or moved to Conforge list” knows who is faking being busy..

@sq busy people were expensive and the not so busy ones were in low cost locations?

Do you not have daily stand-up status meetings where you demonstrate how you are progressing through completing the agile stories you are working on in this iteration?

I am sorry to say it but I am disgusted that someone who has no work was not laid off when so many busy necessary people were.

How does this happen?

@ev I guess we can fix the hallucination problem by just telling it "don't hallucinate" at the start of each prompt.

Why doesn't that work?

Because LLMs aren't intelligent. LLMs don't understand the prompt. LLMs don't think. LLMs just pick the next word using probabilities. LLMs are just autocomplete on steroids.

Software Engineering is not just typing. Having an LLM speed up the typing in Software Engineering is like having velcro shoes to reduce 100 meter sprint times by reducing the time spent tying laces. If typing takes significant time in Software Engineering then that's just ridiculous.

@dx Mate, just pick Claude in copilot CLI or VSC plugin, it's using our premium credits, all paid for (but with lower context window than native Claude). It seems we are on a bit different level when it comes to AI usage in Sabre from what i see... In my team we don't even code by ourselves anymore, just AI + frameworks for AI to keep it in check.

Anyways, it seems that workloads are way off, depending on team.

What??!

No I am working my butt off because everyone else is gone and the work didn't go away.

Every time I try to use AI it just hallucinates garbage that takes me longer to correct than it takes me to do without AI.

How are you using Claude for Sabre work anyway? Sabre doesn't pay for Claude for Sabre work. Are you using public Claude for Sabre work? That's a BIG no no. That will get you fired. Do not use any public AI for private Sabre work.
