Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Remote people team staff layoffs

I’m struggling to understand why we’re laying off People Team staff just because they’re remote, yet we’ve recently made remote hires in leadership roles who won’t be subjected to the same treatment. It feels inconsistent and unfair.
Anyone else smell the makings of a lawsuit?!!

@OP Surprised to read these comments especially coming from someone from the People Team. How do you like it now that you too are victimized by the same double standards? We are all so accustomed to finding the People Team fully aligned with senior leadership on all matters related to People devaluation and cleansing.

@dx bingo, this is why they are asking to come to an office, do they can voluntary resign and don't get any severance saving the bank money and looking good to shareholders and society

@dn
You would have to be a complete rubber helmet wearing imbecile to relocate for this place. Just try asking BNY to cover any moving costs, rents or mortgages hahahahahahaha.
What is not funny is being dependent on a place like this. Imagine being 45, mortgage, bills, kids in school and a spouse not working? Or health issues? Or elderly parents? Only A very tiny amount of people can just pick up and leave.

@df some people are moving to keep their jobs. Not everyone can move at their own cost for this toxic culture

@OP also telling employees that they have until next year to report back into the office so you have time to plan to go back. They just switch it up without notice and told the employees that they need to start reporting into the office that day and if you can't comply then you will have to have a talk with manager and there will be repercussions. No communication whatsoever from upper management.

Very Unfair, the director of my Department recently moved I guess because I’ve only see them in the office occasionally over the last 5 months and it doesn’t help everyone in my department can see there desk is empty 80 percent of the month

If you are remote, you are a ro--h waiting to get stepped on. What we really need to know:
What is a ‘leadership role’ here?
Do we have leadership outside of attendence monitors?
Do we even need leadership?
