Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Severance doesn't help

Before I got cut, I told myself the severance would soften the blow. Once it happened and the money showed up, it didn't fix how I felt. Not one bit. After years of giving everything to Oracle, they let me go with hardly a word of thanks. The check does not help the feeling that comes with that. I'm still not over it, and it's been months.

@e2

I would not doubt age discrimination is real, but I have not really experienced it first hand because I have not put any great effort into looking for a job. I am pretty sure I wont work in tech (or maybe anything at all) again, but its amazing how long severance lasts when one is completely debt free!

I have one vital skill that so many these days don't seem to have - the ability to live within my means, whether that means flush or frugal. You should look into it, it is very liberating!

@dw if you were employed by Oracle long enough to get the max severance that puts you in an age group that will still be looking for work long after the severance runs out. At that point you will have to su-ck it up, buttercup... Age discrimination is real.

@OP you may want to seek help in moving on emotionally.

Oracle is just a job - and not a very good one at that. You give them your time, they give you a check - purely transactional. Let it go. There are plenty of companies and jobs out there that will pay you more money and treat you better.

@a4 I second this advice. Find a way to let it go and move on. For me I was still not over the loss until a couple months into a new position. You’ll get there.

OP, you should find a real support group this site isn't it. Learn from this experience and don't make your next job your life. Companies really don't care. Even if they call you family and hire someone to give you hugs when you arrive at work it is only to squeeze one more hour of work out of you. Hope you feel better.
