Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Hiring Freeze

Just an FYI, Elevance currently has a Hiring Freeze going on.
While some departments may be able to fill open reqs, a lot of them will either be removed or require Senior Leadership approval (which greatly impacts hiring times).
I think a lot of us saw this coming after the last earnings call. Sadly, we all know what generally happens next....

None of the SLT have leadership or knowledge on the work going on below them. Anyone can take their job. You just need to know how to brown nose, have the right connections, and get fed with information from your directs. No one ever question the SLT. They can say, the weather is sunny tomorrow, and everyone in their circle applauds them like they made the greatest discovery of all time. They do nothing and get paid big bucks to buy their belts and 10 watches on their arms.

@k5 I guess when they fail, they have to rif their direct staff do it looks like they are holding people accountable. Then they get to make excuses for poor performance on getting their new hires up to speed. Wow they can really milk the ways to make excuses for their leadership failures. Oh the headwinds!

Why do we need SVP? The more VP and SVP we have, the more it tells everyone how SLT can’t function without all the layers in between to feed them lies of how well we’re doing. All those lies cause SLT to have a false assumption that we don’t need as much associates, hence all the rifs. Get rid of SVPs. Learn to manage directors and sr. Directors. Use those savings to hire more associates who can do the work. Simple math.

Hiring freeze is for Directors and below. New vps and vps of staff are getting hired. 3 VPs gone from health solutions, commercial, and carelon by end of July will be replaced for sure.

RTO is one tactic to find reasons to fire. Next is changing roles and titles to find excuses to fire and rehire cheap labor under a slightly different name, but basically same job. There is no protection for workers.

Not surprised! EH promised Wall Street they would reduce expenses by the end of 2025, and ELT, VPs and Staff VPs sure aren't going to take a cut in their huge benefits packages to make an impact. And I bet their merit increases where more that 2 percent in March.

@an LOL - Rif someone in their 50's and hire someone in their 30's such a coincidence - NOT- the 50 yr old probably was at the top of the MRP and the 30 yr old has NO clue what their salary should be - and they also have no clue what a sh-t hole they just agreed to sign on with. When people would rather go back to patient care, work rotating shifts and stand on their feet for 10 hrs. it speaks volumes. They may not get raises ( neither will you) they may not get AIP (neither will you) and they won't be disrespected and micro-managed PRICELESS

@OP They have been riffing people for last 2 years it only makes sense to have hiring freezes. What makes me sick is seeing them rif somebody then immediately post for that position. Which I’ve seen many times and looks like ageism when person they riffed was 50+ but new hire in late 20s early 30s. And usually they aren’t getting off any cheaper with new person either. Many people in roles for a long time make less than the people they hire in due to pi-s poor merit increases.
