Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Ratted out by a colleague (HWW)

Yesterday I got called out for not working long enough at my assigned location by someone else who works there. They emailed my boss and told her that I am not respecting the "full intent" of the "How We Work" policy. Apparently I leave too soon after I arrive. WTF? Now we have the internal police force looking over our shoulders and counting the minutes we are warming a chair?

If the OP is an Exempt Employee and Coffee Badging and leaving fairly soon after arriving, this should Not matter as long as they get their work completed And on time.

If you're an Exempt Employee, then why don't you do the same ??

What does the OP mean by saying, "I leave too soon after I arrive." ??

Does the OP leave after 2, 3, 4 hours ??

The earliest I've seen someone leave the office is 4 hours After arriving, After they did their Zoom calls cause they're just Coffee Badging.

I believe the unwritten rule or protocol is No less than 4 hours.

@fs, don't come at me. OP here is stating they come in and leave right afterwards. Why are you defending this? This type of behavior is what makes it hard on everyone else and will drive Citi to make us come in five days a week.
I have no problem with someone leaving a little earlier, but that doesn't sound like this is what the OP is doing.
I would be pi---d off to high he-l myself if I saw someone doing this daily. What kind of entitlement are some of you on?

People who take the pi-s are what ruin flexible policies. Don't come crying when we are forced in 5 days like precovid.

I work on a floor that shpuld be oversubscribed and if ppl actually tried coming in, we would be allowed be switched to 2 day weeks!!!!!! But instead id--ts don't follow the guidelines so occupancy rate is never above 90%

Yeah.....why do you think employees "Act" busy, try to look busy and/or hoard work ??? In order to Not become a Layoff casualty.

Employees also don't share work, updates, knowledge, skills and information because No one wants to become fungible or a Layoff casualty. Or in other cases, why help others if doing so will only help the others get salary increases, promotions, etc. but NOT yourself???

It's a Dog Eat Dog and Citi Hunger Games. environment.

This happens all the time in the Risk Department. But surely, also in other departments.

If that's true that the OP is Not busy enough, that means there's Not enough work to justify the OP's existence. The OP will then become a candidate for Layoff.

While I agree w/ being permitted to leave early if the employee is an Exempt Employee AND completed all of their work on time, there's also a delicate balance that needs to be maintained so that the employees do Not become Layoff candidates.

If there's little to No work for the OP to do, the manager or Citi can rationalize and justify their Layoff and simply redistribute the OP's work to other employees.

em+1k8r4b89v, OP, said they leave too soon after they arrive.
OP is probably not busy enough or slacking.

Assume you finished all your work by the 7th hour mark.

So you would rather twiddle your thumbs 👍 or look at your phone at your desk for hours even if you completed all your work And on time just so you can hit and show at least 8 hours ??

e9+1k8r4b89v, then we should all leave early, hourly or not and be able to do whatever the he-l we like.
Sure, I'll come in for an hour and then go home and run errands, dr appointments kids activities, manicures, shopping sprees, check my emails here and there and get my full paycheck. Why the he-l not?

@dt

Why should it matter if the employee leaves early ??

Unless the employee is an hourly employee, as long as they complete all their work and on time No one should care if they leave before 8 hours are up.

I'd be miffed, too if I am working all day and I see someone come in and leave shortly afterwards and still collecting the same paycheck. What makes you special from the rest of us? We all have lives outside of work, but we all are fully committed to work to put food on the table, clothes on our back, and a roof over our head. I would be ticked off, too if I saw you doing this. Come in and leave right after every day? Come on!

Are you doing the half/half method on your days in the office? I've heard some seniors like to walk around and check when people do this. Even when they are not the manager of said team

@OP

Are you an Exempt Employee or Hourly Employee ??

Exempt Employee in Labor Law terms means you're paid a set salary whether you work 5 Minutes or 24 hours per day, as long as you get your work done. Obviously the optics of working 4 Hours or less per day and logging out generally does Not look good. But as long as you get all your work done and completed correctly, your manager should Not care.

If you're an Hourly Employee, you must generally work all your agreed upon hours (8 hours per day, 9 hours per day, whatever) at your hourly rate of for example, your agreed upon annual salary divided by 40 hours per week = your hourly rate.

I've always been an Exempt Employee, and I've had managers who didn't care if their employees worked one hour or 24 hours per day as long as the work got done correctly and on time.

I've also had managers just like the OP's manager who were officious with Broomsticks Up their AS$ES. They didn't care if their employees were productive and efficient working less than 8, even less than 10 hour days. They care more about the optics and would rather have their employees look at their phones, twiddle their thumbs or read periodicals at their desks even if the employees completed their work on time ! Br@!n De@d Ret@rds. Totally !diotic.

If or when I completed all my work in less than 8 Hours, I always left early anyway because I can use the time to run personal errands, do housework or simply beat the mad rush commute home and traffic.

Find this person and retaliate. Let your manager know you intend on leaving by 2PM every day henceforth to set baseline expectation. Had one SVP who didn’t show in the office except a couple of occasions for at least 6 months. He was very good at what he did. Got promoted to director.

I don’t believe in rules for thee but not for me..

You y friend have a toxic coworker and or team

Life and work is filled with things that are not fair. Not saying in your case you were doing something wrong …but just saying

People need to focus on themselves but when citi is in the dumps that leads to stuff like this where someone wants to stick it to you to gain leverage

Depending on how your manager is: I’d be more concerned for your coworker. No mangager wants to deal with petty problems and your coworker just made one
