Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

No job is safe in OCI

The walls are thin. Overheard a conversation regarding significant cuts and reorg in oci. No job is safe and no stone will be left unturned. Best chance of reaching the next vest date would be to work on a service where the revenue exceeds what the company is spending. Good luck, at least the market is hot.

Someone said OCi is the safest place to be, I think that NetSuite area is probably the safest place to be. That's an area where Oracle is actually spending in advertising.

Someone is benefitting from the arrangement monetarily. It may be bad for the company, but, from what I've seen, Oracle employees really take care of themselves first. If they need to arrange things that waste money for the company, then that's what they will do. No oversight from above on anything. No one in the management cares about the longterm health of the company. They all work to get what they can out of what is left.

I believe it is true. Oracle is managing in a stupidity way of hiring people from cheaper countries and bring to Singapore which Oracle need pay few times more as they can hire it locally and base in their own local country that closer to their customer. Those job are not technical but it is sales/customer representative roles that suppose to be having more face to face interaction locally with their customer. So they will spend more on travelling cost back to their own country and pay more for the same person which they can hire from their customer origin country. Oracle expenditure has been wasted on unnecessary arrangement, hat is the reason why the business is going down the drain.

If we’re so disposable, then why am I making $350k + RSUs here? Because my work is make it / break it for all of Oracle. We are trying to save this company.

what is oci revenue stream? hardly any thing substantial. All Oracle Execs, even OCI Execs, these days talk about is Fusion App, or Database. OCI role as iaas provider to external customer has diminished in last 14 months. On what basis do you argue now that OCI is best, compared to rest of Oracle. Fact is, and will remain that database & Fusion App revenue ran this company for last 25 years, and will do so in coming years. Once Larry decides it is enough money thrown on OCI, Apps & DB will be moved to other cloud computes..

@3lxo+13uZStOW The oci people are far from the best or brightest. Oci will never be the primary revenue stream for oracle. You people are delusional and are an f’ing joke. Safra is tired of throwing good money after bad in oci which is why cuts are coming.

Best case scenario is that company will be known as Microsoft at that time and whatever remains of OCI will be assimilated into Azure, Borg style.
But thanks for a giggle on Sunday morning.

OP could not be more wrong. OCI Seattle is the very best and brightest of Oracle. The rest of you should update your resumes; a decade from now we will be the primary revenue stream of all of Oracle.

Maybe the company will be known as OCI by then, the same way people refer to “AWS” today. But they will be roadkill. Every aspect of our stack and services is superior.

We are the future; the rest of you are legacy. Thank you for all you have done until now, but we’ll take it from here.

Lost several heads at HQ and Bay Area. (2/10/2020). To make room for cheaper and/or more knowledgeable new hires.

Seems there is hope at the end of tunnel... A very big project OCI is getting...

Maybe OCI will handle the software for the new "space force".

OIT (OCI) will be going through layoffs soon. Get ready for the ride. It’s going happen. If you can get out do it. No one is safe with all the new org changes.

Which org? I do know that there are hundreds of new hires (a lot of new grads) starting soon. Doesn't make sense to just lay them off immediately.

Fake news. OCI, being younger and more innovative is quickly overtaking AWS and Azure.
