Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Question to our CEO

I reviewed some quarterly meetings with the ELT and one important question was asked to the CEO.

You have mentioned we have the people to win and emphasize we are a people-first culture.
So, why is cutting people first a yearly action plan for long-term growth and profitability?
After five years of people first cuts, might it be time to rethink this strategy. How about people-second?

Does anyone know if this person was made an example of?

Some brave soul should ask at the next all hands. "Why do I only see ELT selling TDC stock when their RSU's vest and never buying the stock with their own $$?"

"If things are so positive, why not put some $$$ on that bet?"

@ws Well, from the results, you haven’t done much either so if I were you I’d watch throwing stones.

being chosen to ask a off script question of the ELT will never happen... the evil dragon lady herself ec, wouldn't dare take that chance at an All Hands call.

Cloud-first proved to be an outdated strategy, where significant effort delivered limited value. This led to the complete halt of VCL production and resulted in some ELT reductions. The new direction is AI-first, and it remains to be seen how much value this approach will ultimately generate.

@vg Can you tell me what have you done? The ELT is transforming Teradata into a cloud first solution, that's more than what I can say you've done

Lord can cut off every branch in me that bears no fruit …

ELT itself is the branch which bears no fruit.

Only when the unproductive ELT branch is cut away, TD can bear more fruits.

My question, if they call on you, would be how many more people are being let go in February...of course you will get a non-direct, BS answer along the lines of how difficult decisions like this are and how 'Teradata is battling head winds and in an extremely competitive AI/Analytics market and blah blah blah so it's possible that there may be cuts to ensure the sustainability of Teradata. Translation - yeah, we are going to cut more to make EPS numbers look better but we are not going to tell you how many or when, mostly because we don't know what we are doing and just winging it to ensure those RSU's hit the bank account. Pathetic.

@ds I guess you forgot the sign board that says "JESUS SAVES" - you could find a spot to stand at the intersection of via del campo and rancho bernardo to show your loyalty. But wait, the CPO isn't in there or nor the new VPs. Guess you and your sign board would need a WE WORK location.

Yearly? Try weekly.

New leadership is just cutting anyone and everyone who didn't come along with them from their existing circles. Already seeing how the world revolves around them. Not even trying to pick out the valuable employees. Just chop them and replace with xxxx (fill in the blank).

@ds I guess you could check to see if there is a miracle coming, because StockStory isn’t seeing it.

stockStory

Three reasons to sell TDC:

Offerings couldn’t generate interest over the last year as its billings have averaged 4.4% declines

Gross margin of 59.4% is way below its competitors, leaving less money to invest in areas like marketing and R&D

Static operating margin over the last year shows it couldn’t become more efficient

Teradata’s stock price of $29.92 implies a valuation ratio of 1.7x forward price-to-sales.

That's about the only way this company, with this leadership, will survive is with divine intervention.

Teradata’s family stands firm because the ELT lead with wisdom and resolve. When the pruning came, they followed the Master’s way: “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit… and prunes every fruitful one so it bears more.” (John 15:2) The unproductive branches? Severed. The fruitful ones? Sharpened. Now the vine thrives, fruit multiplies.
To those cut away: “The sluggard’s craving will be the death of him, for his hands refuse to work.” (Proverbs 21:25) May the Lord grant you diligence and a new field where you can finally bear something.
The remnant remains strengthened, united, unstoppable. Seek Christ for endurance, seek the ELT for direction. We press toward the prize.

In His name, onward.

It hasnt been people first for many years. The current leadership say it because they have to try to sound authentic, when in reality it's just about them lining their pockets in RSU's. Years ago we had leaders in the org who were people first. Alas they've all been moved on now

It’s not even a yearly plan — layoffs every quarter the last few years (at least)

Bingo. “We have the people to win” and then they proceed to hire VPs, Directors, AI Experts… how this leadership is still employed blows my fu--ing mind. The Board really must be pi-s drunk
