@e4 it's hard to figure out the strategy...hardware, software, systems? I think it's a company in decline. Just my personal opinion. I'm leaving very soon but haven't been able to get laid off but if they offered I'd be very happy.

@ds what is stupid is that they opened very recently. They did a big announcement to completely close few years later. This shows the incompetence of the execs. In addition, the GaN factory was not in deficit, just the gross margin was not good enough for the bean counters. They ask us huge planing with detailed tasks and roadmaps, but at management level, they do this kind of stupidity. In their big plan, roadmaps, etc, didn't they forecast a sub utilisation of the foundry? Unbelievable! But I'm sure all of them have their big bonuses guaranteed!

@OP no surprise. RF power is a small part of NXP, and doesn’t fit well in the overall NXP strategy. What is a surprise is how important everyone thought the Echo fab was to NXP. It seems like NXP convinced the local politicians that they were bringing mfg jobs to the area, new technology, bla bla yada, when it wasn’t that big. See the comment about someone buying a house, that’s tragic that even people in the company took the bait.
All the fabs in the US will close, that’s part of the 200mm consolidation, yeah? Will be interesting to see how quickly the European 200mm fab closes in that consolidation plan.
