Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Excellent Plan

  1. Lay off the people who do a task.
  2. Don’t assign anyone else to the task.
  3. Be surprised when the task doesn’t get done.
  4. Profit?

It's just like the job I had years ago stocking shelves. Sales went down so they cut a few of us loose (first round was probably needed). Then when sales numbers don't immediately improve they cut more of us loose. Now we can't keep the shelves full consistently. Management's solution? Cut even more of us loose. We went from being the #1 store in the state for sales to not even breaking the to 25 in just a year. At the time I left they literally couldn't right the ship because they couldn't afford to hire more people and everyone remotely competent had left or was planning their exit.

@ds

Exactly. I have customers who ask me to help them then when you try to get a hold of them, they don't get back to you. More and more this is happening. People seem to be in fire drill mode.

It's not only that. I'm at the point where it starts feeling as just a waste of time sending an email anymore. Even if the people are still around, they won't respond because they are either so overworked that they miss half of their emails, or are so overworked that they see it and ignore it.

So what you're left with is doing what you can on your own and then just ignore the rest. Ridiculous.

Customer then proceeds to work with a partner.
New rep gets thrown into the fray with hopes of building a relationship.
New rep gets a quarter or two to hit 100% of their quota.
Customer is not having it, they have had multiple reps and dont want to do business with said rep.
New rep gets PiP'd.
Circle continues.

Dells methodology of "building business" is so d-mb it makes no sense. Its designed to not succeed unless you kiss the most a-s. F*** that place.

Very similar incident:

Setup a meeting with customer
Invite pivotal Dell person to the meeting
Go to meeting and Dell person doesn't show up
Find out Dell person was let go
No one tells anyone that Dell person was let go
Reschedule with d-mb excuse to customer
