Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Mouse wiggler

Everyone is talking about the mouse wrigglers that make you look busy when you are not at your desk. Has anyone tried one with our system? Does it work well? Anyone detected by boss at all? Any tips to offer??

Wow. RM unleashing her "forces" to down-vote everything here (you never see reactions going into the hundreds) reminds me of what Putin is doing to the Ukrainians.

How about everybody just do the job you're paid to do. That's what my Momma taught me. Simple.

not sure why people make the effort and try not to do work. Really???? Are you proud of yourself? I'd that what you Mo.ma taught you? Seriously!!!!

Looks like Felix the Cat has punished the one and only one single, solitary wiggler mouse. But that's ok, the world has enough parasitic leeches. Like stepping on a ro--h.

How can y'all be worried about wiggling mouses when you have UFOs landing in the lawn outside CVX Louisiana building

Come on everyone, do your part. Show RM there’s more of us out here. Let’s UP Vote everything we see that was downvoted by 10-1. Reverse all negative votes ten-fold to the upside.

I agree with @hygq where everyone should STFU about their workaround tricks to get around the background monitoring of our online activities. Leave us be, as we only want to wiggle our mouses.

Yah, no one knows or at least cares about terminating background processes. I haven't been interrupted by those stupid workplace breaks in over eight years.

It would be nice if all you loud-mouths would STFU and not ruin things for everyone by giving up the tricks.

And for those of you too cheap to get one of those counter-monitoring devices, just go the cheapo route. Tie a string around your wrist and keyboard space bar. You’ll look very productive whacking off while you should be working.

IT is only "monitoring" if they have a reason to. 99.9% of the shenanigans going on are unnoticed. Use the pocket watch or space bar or Amazon dongle, nobody in IT cares.

Any reports that IT may produce, soon end up in File 13. I’m serious, nobody cares or looks at them. You give too much credit where none is due.

@drcw, I suggest you wake up and smell the roses. You somehow think very highly of our IT departments in every BU. They don’t and won’t be bothered with one a few employees ki-ling the monitoring app. Take it from me, over 4 years doing this daily, and so far no contact from anyone— Nobody cares.

IT definitely knows and your name is no doubt showing up in their monthly reports. Only a matter of time before someone in management notices, checks the history and you are busted. They can easily see if you ki-led the process.

@cmwo, “Sounds like” or do you in fact know? You have a touch of doubt in your assertion. Let me assure you of something. The IT department will know of nothing if you temporarily disable the process that runs in the background for the monitoring app. This app runs during startup of the computer. The app is not being uninstalled or tampered with. The simple step of disabling the running process only ends its function to monitor user activity during the session, until the computer is rebooted again. Tell us all exactly how will IT handle this situation? Are they going to definitely prove that you disabled the monitoring app or do you think they would suppose the app itself just didn’t startup automatically or maybe a glitch or other conflict turned it off? The answer is No proof, No wrongdoing. Don’t jump to conclusions here, unless you live in imaginary land. I’ve been ki-ling this monitoring app on my laptop as the first course of business every morning before doing any work. It’s been years and never was called or had IT swing by to check my computer. Not surprised either, as the IT department has other things to occupy their time with.

Sounds like a lot of misuse of company equipment which will likely be investigated by IT and security thanks to the many id--tic posts here.

@baoq, Try it first before guessing you need Admin rights. I do it all the time and am a regular employee.

Yeah, disabling works a treat if you have Admin rights on your lapptop.

Don’t you know the surveillance software can be temporarily ended. Open up Task Manager on your desktop screen (Control-Alt-Delete). Click on the Processes tab at the top of the menu bar. Scroll down the running processes and right-click on the application process that pertains to the surveillance application that is monitoring your activity. Select Disable. The running process with be disabled for the current session. Once you turn on or reboot your computer again, the surveillance application will run anew. Simply disable it again when needed.

I normally just open a Note file and put my coffee cup on the space bar. Seems to work for at least half a day. I use it when I go golfing in the morning.

Put a PowerPoint presentation into present mode and your teams status won’t go yellow. To go red, start a Teams meeting with “Meet now” button for a 1 on 0 meeting.

I was called WFH, but I’m pretty sure everyone knew it mostly as JAFH (Jack Around From Home). Not too different from JAFW (Jack Around From Work), only at the office I had to wear clothes all day and not get caught sleeping at my desk.

I’m a low tech person in many regards, so in this case I place my external keyboard wrapped in plastic wrap into my pet hamster’s cage. It works great.

@5ygs, we can grant you a permanent layoff whereas everyone else who wants to keep their job will be present and working in the office on a 9/80 schedule.

I think we need to do what the schools are doing, go to a 4-day work week. Two in the office, two WFH. I propose we only come into the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

I had a conversation with my boss, we agreed that I get work done far faster than my D&I and quota co-workers, so she's fine with me working in the morning, and taking a hike or bike ride in the afternoon.

I got this USB plug-in from Amazon for 10 bucks that keeps my laptop "active" during Teams meetings. I keep my camera off ("I've been having camera problems, IT has me scheduled for a replacement") and do some online shopping or TikTok on my phone instead. That way, if my name comes up in the meeting, I can chime in as if I was paying attention the whole time. Outside of Teams, I can have this running while I take a nap. It's all good.

I saw online that if you place your mouse on top of one of grandpa's old pocket watches, the moving second hand fools the mouse into thinking you are working. Have one of the D&I webpages up when you do this, and you may get a promotion out of it!

I am just a lot more efficient at my job than anyone realizes. I don’t need a full day to get it all done, so why should I sit there doing nothing when I could be walking the dog or going for a swim?
