Keeping costs down

As we continue to feel strains and increased costs as a company perhaps looking at top exec costs would help cut off some of that. Are there business travels at that level that are really needed or lunches for those in those positions that really need to be paid for? How are leaders paid more and advancing levels when others are not? How many additional senior leaders do we really need? Our members need to be able to reach live, direct workers. Happy employees lead to happy members and business which organically leads to overall better business. Telling associates benefits are more, AIP is less, and growth will not really happen is tough for lower ranking associates. I wonder when that piece of the puzzle will be realized by the business. Further consider these associates are also members trying to make it in the world today.

@ej being a manager in the operations side is beyond miserable. the amount of micromanagement is beyond tolerable long term . Lots of us used to have 20+ direct reports - it changes all the time and if another manager quits you often have to cover that. Meetings that could be an email are also endless. As for having Spark write evals that will be new - its not hard to actually give everyone but 1 person or 2 a "meets" a 2 percent merit and no or next to no AIP - associates won't even care what they say - but they will share it all among each other how identical they are and what they got - anyone who gets an exceeds might get a whopping 3 percent. Please don't say "they are not allowed to do that" - they have been for ages - just not on company communication

@dq Yes. managers need to have more direct reports. This model where they only can have 7 is so d-mb. (I’ve seen areas where manager has more, but typically I’ve heard the ideal number is 7). But in one area the managers never had one on ones didn’t know the business and do you couldn’t ask them a complex question about your role because they never did the job. Make them have 12 or more direct reports. They only time they have any work is during year end reviews which they’ll probably just gave Spark to the writes for them going forward. They get big pay for 2 weeks of actual work. We have so many useless managers that want the title but not do anything except sit in meetings that nothing gets resolved.

Healthcare costs are up . And any study tells you that 70% of chronic illness comes from stress. Stress comes from work. Maybe this company should focus on making our lives better and our own healthcare costs would go down. But I don’t really think coughs are up. They’re trying to gouge as much profit as they can for their shareholders. You’re still making money, but it’s not as much as you want. So you steal it from us.

Common sense will tell anyone that if you can reduce the number of staff required to do x job - and reduce the number managers and increase the number of direct reports for others - the same should apply to ELT.

Why does this company need so many layers of VP - they don't - why do we have positions with no direct reports? In Operations why do we have an audit department for external audits who as far as anyone can tell do very little to prepare for an audit and seem to do next to nothing in between audits. The same people are part of the wine and dine group with accounts during audits - not the people slaving to prepare

Sales is another area that has incredible perks, along with ELT - trips meals events - well they make the sale - so they deserve it - do they? Isn't that their core function - the people who execute all their promises get nothing.

And for staff who complained for the past couple of years they only got 10K or 11K - and still complained - now prepare for next to nothing - you were warned. This place is always about the top level salaries, perks, etc. They never cared about you

You gotta spend money to make money. That’s what ELT does, they get paid the big bucks to gaslight us all into telling us the could not have predicted the current headwinds. So now we need more big money executives to get us out of this mess. And yes we need our fancy lunches and travel because that is how the game is played. They’ll just riff some people and then they can afford that fancy lunch. We are just pawns to them.

No, no, no. You have to understand that cost sensitivity is only for us worker drones. The privileged class wouldn't dream of doing with less.
