Take all your sh1t back and forth, fight for space, zero personalization, spread everyone’s germs, sit on Teams calls with team members down the hall or across the world… and do it 4 days a week.
Enjoy your check and stfu cattle.

@2z3 thanks!! It’s refreshing to see that good people still exist. I and others in similar situations appreciate you!
@1hk
You are confused, the older workers with multiple years into chevron will not resign and a find a job somewhere else. We will hold on as long as possible so they pay us severance when they lay us off.
We have survived multiple layoffs and we know the system.
Well, people do disappoint me with their lack of compassion and common sense.
I am sorry that you are one of the folks facing the hardships that this unassigned model presents. Just know that some of us are decent human beings who care and will be supportive of people in your predicament. Heck, I’ll toss my jacket on another chair when I come in a o’dark 100 and save you a seat (too bad we cannot converse here in a private manner). That actually could be a viable approach for you, if you have a buddy you trust who might be willing to save you a good work point once or twice a week, without it being overly obvious. I know, now I sound silly, but I do hope you can get a break. Hang in there.
@pc I can’t believe your response has just as many downvotes as upvotes. As a working mom, I am worried about whether I will be able to find a spot to work once I make it into the office after dropping off my kiddo as soon as daycare opens. And I know there are just many others who have similar morning commitments that won’t be able to come in at 6 am. This just adds more stress to the day. Shame on all of the downvotes. What happened to compassion?
@1wf Help me Jesus. Do they really want me to drop d3ad from a coronary? 😂
I heard they're turning the escalators into stairs too
@1hv, Not sure who "you" is or who you think you're addressing. I'm an (embarrassed) older millennial. Perhaps you should look into a mirror and ask those questions of yourself or does your generation contribute nothing, were given everything and just like to throw stones and blame others.....
the silent generation and the greatest generation did nothing you can think of to make your life better?
wow that’s quite an incredible take.
who built out the college system, the infrastructure- roads and highways and bridges, fought wars, and established the modern college system as we know it with what was then affordable tuition?
was it you? why have you done to improve the world on a country wide scale like your parents and grandparents did for you? because i’ve got nothing and i have asked twice now. but all you have to say is “nuh uh, your generation is the bad one” while you act superior.
in my opinion, you’re the generation that quit giving anything back to your local community because “it’s my money and these aren’t my problems”. If anything, you’re takers loading up on more benefits with every state, federal, and county election at the expense of all others. you also took pensions and exchanged them for 401ks which are totally unproven retirement mechanisms and snipped jobs away to make your bonuses.
@1dh Not only that, but many will quit, so Chevron saves on relo and unemployment. Also gives the company the opportunity to replace a more senior & costly PSG with lower.
the standard of living and life quality boosts that their parents gave to them
That's precious, naïve and cute albeit 100% patently false. Therein lies the problem.
Surely you mean the children of boomers and Gen-Xers.
the boomer generation taking pride in make life just as hard for everyone as they feel they had it is truly remarkable when you consider the standard of living and life quality boosts that their parents gave to them
remote work didn’t lower productivity. face it grandpa, your explanations are “ you signed a contract” and “we had to go you have to go”, which aren’t excuses at all.
now, why don’t you go run off and vote on expanding medicaid or property tax relief or HOA bylaws and all of the other control freak grifting type of stuff yall like that directly enriches you as younger people take the loss
Those of us who have worked our entire careers and showed up for work with no problems or issues are "lmao" all day long at childish posts like these. Find somewhere else to work where you can stay home and play or take care of your kids all day and still collect a paycheck and you'll be fine, right? What's stopping you?
@11b basically we are consolidating various offices around the country to the Houston location. It saves money. How much I don't know. Now all the consequences we all shared here come with the package too.
can you explain how unassigned seating saves money? i’m genuinely interested in the math
all that i have heard is that it makes people quit and that’s cheaper than laying off people
am i missing something?
bottom line is unassigned seating saves money. That's the cold hard truth. It certainly has other consequences that wear us down, but I don't believe those are the primary motivators. Most other companies are doing this and so we follow suit. This is coming from someone who thinks the XLT has lost all respect, but on unassigned I think it is follow the leader AND it costs less.
Now, coming in 4 days a week? I do believe that will lower morale and reduce productivity. Sure we used to do it pre-covid, but given the greater migration of employees to non-US locales that require digital collaboration, the mandate for US workers to do 4 days feels petty and vindictive. Must be coming from Mr. Insecurity himself
@gc dei guy...stay out of our American politics and stick to Indian politics. You are not qualified
simple question - how did everyone get a desk before covid?
@dn They said a lot of stuff that’s not true- sanitation, white noise Will cust distraction- not when you’re 3” away from each other and can hear your neighbor through your mic. Welcome to the chaos. Can’t get anything done in the office- go home to actually work
@pq no it is not just for IT
Ah yes, the global cabal that controls us all. Got it. /s
@dy I didn’t say it was fake. I said it was planned.
@pq If you worked at Chevron, you should know the answer.
Answer: no, everyone in the USA is working a minimum of 4 days in the office beginning Jan. 5th
@pq If you work at Chevron, you should know the answer to this question. BTW, the answer is, "no, unassigned seating is for everyone that is not MW".
Is unassigned seating just for IT?
Not everyone has the ability in their schedule to come in early and secure a good working.
I will preface this by saying that I am not in the category of employees that I am about to describe, but people I care about are. Nobody has mentioned the inherent discriminatory aspect to this unassigned model that penalizes working moms and caregivers. These are the people who get kids or elderly parents ready in the mornings and do school drop offs, whose timing they don’t control.
By the time they can get on the road, they already have a sh---y start to their day with heavy traffic and lack of parking. Then they finally arrive at the office and can’t find a proper work point or it takes them time to find a suitable spot to work.
Think about how that person feels by the time they are ready to boot up their laptop.
Day in and day out, this starts to wear a person down. And you wonder why women are leaving the workforce?
I personally know two very accomplished, bright, young moms who left Chevron to a large degree because of this. They are teammates who are missed for their knowledge and problem-solving abilities. This isn’t just a comment to be nice; it’s a very practical observation about how our policies and workplace changes can have certain undesired outcomes.
Mike Wirth: I bet you NEVER, not once, had to worry about these kinds of logistics in your life, and many, many other male colleagues don’t understand this is the reality that women face every single day.
I just go in early.
If they start badging us in the restroom, then how will we continue "man time" there. The honey is at home so me and da boys need a bit of time in a private stall. Thats the only reason im desperate for 4 days in office! Double the fun!
Im leaving my stuff on my desk. My boss; bosses boss and his boss think this is alll re--rd3d
@fp I hope they start recording the what happens in those bathrooms. Those curry lunches have a way of reappearing.
Privilage sh1t is out the window get back to reality. Otherwise there is no god to answered you prayers all this time. Covids over time to pay the consequences. Note your democrat governor been fired months ago if you haven't noticed? There no one to believe your whining.
Another huge MW dumped all over us!
Their going to put badges on bathrooms
Oh yeah still complaining. I can hear rest DEI shouting outside of 1400. It must be fun have free time to complain, but wait that's not all your diversity security guard have join the strike movement. Man you sure know a thing of to how to get attention. Sure teaching us a lesson in how NOT to be re--rded man child you really are.
I hear badge check in and check out is coming too.
@dy lol, the old dropping "the matrix" moment.. 🤣
Just like a cattle yard or pigs in a pen. What the he-l happened to the human race that is causing us to devolve.
At least the people can start every meeting with an OE moment while complaining about the unassigned seating
Ugh.. matrix.. really. You think Covid was fake.. I bet you think the earth is flat too. Can’t fix stupid
Covid, covid, covid. You know it was planned right? If you have not realized that by now, you’re still trapped in the matrix.
@OP They said that offices would be sanitized nightly. BS.
