Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Remote was working until they broke it

I used to love my job until they forced us back to the office without a real reason. I'm in a fully remote role, but now I’m commuting just to sit on Zoom calls. Management says it’s about “collaboration,” but no one talks. It feels like a power move. Morale is low, people are burned out, and HR doesn’t listen. We’re treated like children, not professionals. Productivity hasn’t improved, only stress has.

@15n Settle down, Beavis. Contrary to your myopic view, there are 70,000+ people employed by USB and some of us do, in fact, use Zoom for meetings with external partners.

@13k The bank probably used Lotus 1-2-3 (where you navigated with "slash commands" before the invention of the mouse) at some point in history too. Your point? You think anyone talking about the bank using Zoom is a real employee? If so, you win the Most Gullible award of 2025.

Those agitators lashing out because the OP used the term "Zoom" must all be new management as we did use Zoom for a while, as well as Lotus Notes.

@ed not all of us are at work to be social. I have no desire to talk to anyone between calls unless it pertains to work most of the time. I'm the only one from my team at my location. I gain absolutely nothing from being in the office.

@dk THEN GET ANOTHER JOB. It’s amazing all the complaining. Yes it has had real impact for a lot of people but at some point stop complaining and move on.

It’s all about executive management and slowing the commercial real estate bubble. As a people manager I preferred being in less often and not having to spend so much time on RTO. It applies to everyone…

Just be patient. In two years the next CEO will be for remote work because at that point they will be looking to save on expenses by closing down offices.

Why do people keep posting the same thing over and over? We don't like back to office. Executives want us back in. They don't care about us. They care about shareholders and themselves and their inner circle. For whatever reason. It's not fair. It's just the way it is. We have to make it work, get an exception, or leave. Those are our options. They are not going to start caring about us.

Expect to be treated like children if you're acting like children. There is no way you have no opportunity to talk to others between calls. You choose not to. Grow up.

I’m completely broken right now. This is the worst job experience I have ever had in my career.

I get the sentiment, but maybe they just used Zoom as a catch all like Kleenex. Who cares if it’s Zoom, WebEx, or Teams.

The bank does not use Zoom you stupid TROLL. If you worked here you would know that. And if your entire job is to "sit on Zoom calls" without talking, you are adding no value and SHOULD be laid off. Now go choke on a bag of di-ks.

It's not about collaboration.

  1. Cities are offering tax breaks to get people back so they can bolster the economy
  2. Those that invested in corporate real estate want to maintain/increase value. If you have a bunch of empty buildings, value goes down
  3. Push people to quit and not have to layoff and pay out packages
  4. Companies recognize some people may be slacking or overemployeed where they're working 2 jobs at the same time. Bringing people back to the office stops that to an extent

I mean yes obviously, no one except geeks like RTO. But also, the bank doesn’t use Zoom to my knowledge? Lol
