A year ago I was extremely happy working at TIAA despite its flaws (which all large employers have). I was excited to earn a promotion soon and genuinely enjoyed the people in my department. The future had potential.
Fast forward to now, this potential is now just a broken promise. I am being told that I must relocate to the undesirable location of Frisco, TX, or have to look for new employment with a paltry severance package while several colleagues across the firm get the blessing to be 100% virtual or at least simply don’t have to worry about upending their lives for a firm that just wants a tax incentive with no other strategic aspirations for the move.
I’d love to ask how many people in Charlotte or else where would be willing to drop their lives and move to just keep working at a firm that pulls away the carrots of promotions, tuition reimbursement, and career development to save money while touting outsourcing 1,500 employees as a success.
Idk about other departments, but this firm is in big trouble when the brain drain spigot really starts flowing in just a few short months. I can tell those of you that don’t have to relocate to remain employed here will be doing a lot more work. Very few of our processes are even documented with up to date information. That information will be in the heads of people that have been forced to move on with their lives to other pastures.
For those of you remaining at TIAA, just remember that life has no guarantees - and your workloads will go from overwhelming to insurmountable to f*** this. Meanwhile, T and her cronies are just laughing their way to the bank (and not the one sold at a substantial loss right before interest rates spiked and it was possible to make money on net interest income, but I digress).
Just remember, TIAA always will “Champion Our People.”
