I was rifed earlier this year, and I just got a new job back at Elevance. I know this department was affected by multiple rifs this year including this team. Im still scarred by the rif, and i really want to talk about this with my supervisor. Do you think he-l be receptive or honest about this if a RIF is coming again? Or do you think I should do my best to ignore this and continue along?

Being in the same position as you, it absolutely wasn't a first choice to return after being RIF'd. However with the horrendous job market, it was the only offer in 7 months of being unemployed. Constantly worried about whether this will be the month that it happens again, which is an awful way to live. Hoping the job market improves and that something better comes along. Honestly your manager might not even know who is on the list until right before it happens and if they do, there's no chance they would tell you. This company has zero loyalty or morals. It's all about the mighty dollar to the leadership team.
I would not - you are unlikely to gain anything but there’s much to lose.
They're not going to tell you a thing as they probably don't know, and certainly don't care.
Management is rarely honest about anything they know, and often they don't know until a few weeks before a RIF anyway. Just look for they key signs that one is coming in your area - Like being asked to list every single thing you do and how long it takes. when that happens it means your department is going to have some Rif's.
OP, calm yourself. RIFs are scary because we all live paycheck to paycheck. Mortgages need to be paid, student loans, food, everything. I get it. However, “laying low” doesn’t make any sense to me. Are the high-performers any less likely to be laid off? No. Nearly 80% of this company is graded a 3 “meets” on their annual review. Not everyone is average so it’s a gimmick to control wage growth. Do your job have the best of your ability, speak up when asked questions and offer suggestions. In the meantime, keep job searching. If you find something, consider if it’s a good fit and pays what you want, and if it does, go for it. Don’t sell yourself for less than your worth. It’s all going to workout.
@dib+1v6uEU5V here...O.P. I understand and I and I hope things work out for you this time. I would hate for you to end up RIFd again and then have to experience the whole negative crisis cycle again.
OP here: the job market is rough....after how many applications ive submitted over the past year (i wouldnt be surprised if it was 1000), ill take any job i can get. I think maybe I just need to keep a low profile like what someone posted said, but its going to be really tough. i was brought up to stand out so that you can get noticed for a promotion. but with all the rifs, im happy to just be employed. i hate this feeling.
So why go back if you are scarred? Make it make sense.
O.P. I am shocked that you would even return to the company knowing that RIFs are happening. Was your previous manager able to tell you ahead of time that you were going to be RIFd?
I personally would not approach your manager regarding this. I would keep a low profile and perform your job to the finest you can. Remain a positive attitude, but at the same time be prepared.
You could bring it up but I doubt they'd be able to tell you whether or not a RIF is coming up in your area. Perhaps they can give you a sense of security for the short term. There is always that possibility of aRIF anywhere you go at Elevance. Do your best not to worry (easier said then done) & just remain prepared.
