Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

New RIF a-comin’

Hi friends, well, here we go again….
CFO and Viasat Exec are planning cost and workforce reductions because revenue expectations are low plus investors and owners need to be pleased.
With Starlink here and Kuiper coming Viasat folks can look forward to zero investment, reduced opportunities and saying goodbye to colleagues.
Not sure on “when”, but it is no longer “if” anymore, regardless of what you hear from Guru or your Leader.

If they were going to have another RIF, it would have been just before the end of the fiscal year. That didn't happen.

I mean…. one can say that someone is also doing nothing at work or Viasat is paying people to lurk on here lol

Someone here got laid off, isn't smart enough to get a new job, and has nothing better to do. LMAO!!!

Does that include all of the outsourced overseas contractors? They usually work for three companies at the same time and have never even seen an office.

They will cut the people who NEVER come into the office.

Are they planning on shutting down some of the smaller locations?

Hey @dhgl+1si4DnWe
Please come back and talk with us AFTER Guru does another 1000 layoffs. Believe me bro, it’s happening and maybe to you….

Guru said no more layoffs
Stop the troll!

That 38th anniversary email was weird. Just. Weird. Written by Guru in first person as if he has any experieince with the prior 37 years or the awesome early years. He didn't do any of that, yet speaking of it as if he was a part of it feels akin to "stolen honor" or some other kind of appropriation. He's trying real hard to be one of us. It's ok, you're the hatchet man, at least drop the friendly clown charade and own your role in this affair.

Because the guy calling the shots haven't been there long enough to know the inner workings of the company. Using a hack saw when he needs a scalpel. He'll still get his atta boys and pay outs.

Why RIF 2-4 employees for an external 150k rando if the 2-4 employees are well-versed in the project? (Assuming they are laying off high performers at random like last time)

It means it's just trolls talking about layoffs. There won't be one anytime soon.

And let go of 2-4 people would are like combined for between 150k- maybe like 400k tops
And push all the work of those would got let go to that new hire

I've been watching the job ads. Seems like they run ads, but don't hire.

Are they still doing employee anniversaries? I got a nice tent for one of them, but didn't get the email for my 15th.

What’s with all the new job postings for 150k+, 175k+ if they’re going to be stingy on focals and then RIF a bunch?

Interesting that the 38th anniversary email wasn’t sent by the founder 👀

he does have a particularly honed skill in destroying large amoutns of value which may come in handy in ensuring the 7 billion acquistion of Inmarsat eventually gets sold off for 3 billion. amazing how some up-fails can whitewash their track record

Looking at Guru's resume I don't understand how he got here. A couple years here a couple years there. What's he ever done? Born with contacts and a silver spoon perhaps.

“We should ask for the CFO to post how much Guru and other Sr. Leaders spent since Nov. on company travel.”

Guru took a private jet to London for the recent HQ opening. Plus has some ridiculous riders at the hotels he stays at.

What on earth is this pointless, selfie-obsessed, Banana Splits character doing wasting money given the financial and staffing cuts he promotes? Get rid.

Most likely the DOD business will be focused on the back end of the product cycle. Mike can stand up and say how great the business unit is doing, but people will run out of fu--s to give.

thinking anyone who is in engineering whose work can legally be done in a foreign country where labor is cheap should exit now. This place doesn't care about us. We should ask for the CFO to post how much Guru and other Sr. Leaders spent since Nov. on company travel.

All I will say is they would have done better at keeping their IP secret if they'd just treated me with respect and gave me the score instead of Bush whacking me to get the laptop and not even allowing me to get some personal stuff. Lesson learned...no personal stuff at work or on work computer. From here on out I can walk away on a moments notice and not lose a thing.

The laptops make nice Linux machines if they forget to take it back. Just erase the hard drive and install Ubuntu.

Don’t do anything you’d regret. They have been deploying Code42 Incydr on laptops to prevent IP loss.

Copy your hard drive. The one and only thing I didn’t get back was any access to the files on the laptop which was complete bs. I just ended a handful of personal photos. Copy your whole HD tho

I’m pretty sure the rif is gonna happen soon….
A manager I know has been throwing small hits that myself and a few others positions have been outsource overseas…
I’m been interviewing for another company, and it looks like I got the job….
So hopefully If I get the job do before I get the axe

When the VS3 failure was announced, first thing I did was pack all my personal stuff out of my office. A floormate thought I was over reacting. Unfortunately he got the axe in the november rif. It can happen to any of us, it's just easier to make it as painless as possible. Too many posts here about when people were going to get their stuff and nobody was returning their calls. better things to do.

How many people are going to actively take their stuff home in the next week or so?

And after you get all personal artifacts out of your office, there will remain some stuff that is yours (e.g. wireless keyboard, speakers for Zoom, engineering books, etc). Take a picture of your stuff for the inevitable dance with PnC about where's my stuff.
